So, Ladies Night at the Range was fucking Fabulous, and I encourage many ladies to join us on the next one. For maybe an hour and a bit, Sarah D, Kristen and me took turns shooting a Ruger III, and a Berretta92fs. The Ruger was awesome. You could reasonably hit what you pointed it at. The berretta, however, made a great BANG but had a WTF kick to it. it was very much a "Jesus shitballs wtf am i doing?!" moment. I finished the box of ammo by singing the overture of 1812 and punctuating it with the gun. Yes, it may have been silly. But it re-contextuallized an object a bit, and most importantly, it was FUN. Sports are established for fun, and this was FUCKING FUN.
We were giddy for hours later. It was cool, and i think so much of it is in our heads. but that was the point, or a lot of it. To really walk up to an idea, study it, try it, and formulate more educated opinions. We all took shells as a trophy of our defeat of foreign concepts, as our emblems of the new experience.
The place didn't know my socks off, but they were indeed very nice. I'm not sure if I'm actually disappointed in their instruction, or if there's not much to it beyond "how to use it, keep it pointed that way" until you get into markmanship. It actually was a nice balance of dropping by frequently to make sure we were having success, and not babysitting us. I wanted to know so much, but i think that there's a lot that they couldn't really have told me. I mean we were mostly just getting comfortable with an idea. I would really like to be a better markswoman. I always was SUCH SHIT at archery though.
We had a lot of success with the comparable concept of driving a car. It's a very dangerous thing, unless you are cautious and correct with it. It's really not that hard, but if you fuck up shit can suck real bad. It's a lot harder to take out a bus with just a gun though, or at least that's what i told Kristen to encourage her. You actually get more bang for your buck with a car.
Anyhow. I feel much more prepared for zombies now.
