I love music.
And for the most part I consider my music taste, quite eclectic actually. Unlike several people I know, my music choices on a given day range from country music-mainly Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban-to pop-I admit dancing to Britney-to rock-Nickelback, Hinder..in fact I pretty much can only stand to listen to one genre for so long before I am completely bored and flipping to a new one.
Of course like all generation Y's (or late X's) it seems as though I forever live on my Ipod. it goes wherever I go. Some women are addicted to shoes, others to gambling and partying. Myself however seems to be addicted to the little black gadget that so many years ago replaced my portable CD player. And yes I did hold on to it several years after the Ipods came out, fearing and thinking that it was going to be a passing fad...
Oh if I only knew back then...over 3829 songs and working on my fourth Ipod later, I can't imagine ever going back to that chunky portable CD player ever again.
But here's the things. Even with all the songs I have, all the easily readily available music I have at my hands. I still find myself stuck on the same damn playlist I created just a few weeks ago...
My appropriately titled playlist-Thats my 90's.
On it is a retrospective selection of the ten years I like to call my tween/teenage years...You will find Ace of base, Boyz II Men, Sir Mix alot, Tom Petty, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cardigans. big movie theme songs to cheesy boy bands and even a few country songs. Because come on who didn't know about Friends in Low Places. This collection, which started out as 20 songs has quickly grown into 75 plus, with an addition added daily. Its not that I am trying to overload my playlist its just I find myself remembering songs from back in the day and suddenly realize how good it was.
How much I miss that decade of great music. Sure there are always eras, and bands from each decade that just stand out. But in the 90's, I think all genre's stood out. You had good rap, good country, good pop and good rock. There was something for everyone and unlike today. Most musicians were actually musicians. They had talent, they had a voice. There was no omg did you see who lip sync at this event. OK I take that back, Millie Vanilli did but we can forget about that one.
Funny, years ago during the actual 90's I never gave the music that much credit. Probably because it was current. But now, its the 90's music that I am loving.
Which is why I will hit repeat once more...and jam to whatever beat comes through my Ipod touch.
