Back in March, my mother tripped over a rug at the local 7-11. She fell face first into a sports car. Since then, she has been off of work, unable to use her right side of her arm and has been down in the dumps. Rightly so of course. She also happens to be our daycare provider. So after spending two months off of work, in pain and unsure of where to go she found herself staring at the results of the MRI. The conclusion? It is a lot worse than they originally thought, and she is facing one of two options.
1. Surgery
2. Shots in her shoulder to mask the pain and continue with the painful physical therapy.
Neither of which she wants, but if given the choice it sounds like she would choose door number 2. The concern at the moment is her weight. They are afraid that it would have a factor in the recovery. While she has always known she is a plus size woman no wants to actually hear they are a plus size anything. Not to mention because of her weight there could be complications with her breathing. They aren't even sure if they would allow her to go under for fear of something happening. And they aren't sure if they want to risk that. Plus the recovery, if she went through with the surgery would be 6 months and with her already being down and out for the past two, she is dreading the prospect of being down and out for pretty much an entire year.
And then there is the shots. which may mask the pain but won't exactly cure anything. She would have to go through therapy in hopes that it would make the muscles she doesn't use more effective.
But she will have to wait at least a month to find out what the doctor decides to order. Shots or surgery.
Meanwhile, Andy and I will have to figure out and start looking for daycare, with metro fares rising and the economy the way it is, neither of us are particularly looking forward to figuring this out. Not because we don't exactly want to put lil man in day care, we always knew the day would come when we would have to. But we never expected it to be this soon. When my mother agreed, we agreed that it was going to be for at least two years. Things happen, this happened and so now we get to figure where to go from here.
If anything.
