Father's Birthday!

Sep 25, 2010 20:45

Happy Birthday to you Dad! He may never see this, since he's not a huge internet fan, but oh well.

Here's some quotes and poetry about aging. Enjoy!

"Though an old man I am but a young gardener." --Thomas Jefferson

"The old begin to complain of the conduct of the young when they themselves are no longer able to set a bad example." --Francois de La Rochefoucauld

"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." --Abraham Lincoln

"Perhaps one has to be very old before one learns to be amused rather than shocked." --Pearl S. Buck

"One of the signs of passing youth is the birth of a sense of fellowship with other human beings as we take our place among them." --Virginia Woolf

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night (By Dylan Thomas)

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
My father isn't dead or dying, but I remember Rodney Dangerfield saying this out loud for his college exams in "Back to School". It's an excellent poem. Thank you for reading or passing by.
