We have a dog!
We went to the Nashville Humane Society 2 weekends running, and fell in love with 2 dogs. Well, 1 of those dogs got adopted so we adopted the other. Her name is Maple, she's somewhere between 6 mos-1 year old. And she's a beagle/boxer?/whatever mix of a dog. She's mostly white with amber-colored spots (same color as maple syrup). She's got a bteeny little boxer head on a gangly body. She's kind of funny looking. She has to have been someone else's dog; she's been the easiest dog I've ever seen to housebreak, she understands sleeping in her bed at night, and she just gets the rhythm of a house. She's super snuggly, and she's really done well with Lily. Lily is now working through some jealousy issues (Wait...this dog is cool and all but Mommy's lap belongs to me. Daddy's lap also belongs to me. What do you mean I have to share?) This is a good thing.
Our big issue is going to be with other dogs. She hates other dogs and is effectively killing my dreams of taking her to the dog park and/or becoming a 2 dog family. But we have time to work on that. Suggestions would be welcome.
She looooooves our big back yard. She loves playing with the tennis ball. She also loves sleeping on the couch. She does not love when we leave, but we're working on that.
She's not in our hearts like Bella was yet, but it's been less than a week. And she's nothing like Bella; Bella, for being the sweetest dog ever, was traumatized. She loved us dearly, but she was timid and a bit of an old soul. She also couldn't bark. Maple is a big ball of happy and seems to be pretty fearless. I'm so happy that Lily is going to have a dog to grow with her.
It feels good to have a dog back in our lives.
doggies,
