Is anyone else really looking forward to seeing "Baby Mama" after it comes out tomorrow? [I'll probably be going to see it on Sunday.] We were discussing it in English class today, and there's a surprising amount of other people who also thought the commercials looked hilarious. Also, speaking of movies? The "Prince Caspian" trailer? Shiny! That looks excellent too. I have both marked on my calendar.
LOST returned tonight! There was a moment in which I was literally holding my breath, fists pressed to my mouth and eyes wide, unblinking, glued to the screen. It so looked like Sawyer was about to die at any minute.. Bullets were flying everywhere.. And then Claire's house blew up, and I actually screamed out loud a little bit - because next to Sawyer, I think I love Claire the most out of all the characters. But then Claire was alright, and all "Chahlee..?" I think I sobbed a little, it was so sweet. She comes to after being knocked out by an explosion and she calls for Charlie.. And Sawyer and Claire both survived the episode, much to my immense relief.
Did I mention that yesterday I finally bought "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield? It's been the Book Club book for quite a while now.. In fact, the only reason we haven't already had the meeting for it is because finals have made the schedule so crazy. I've kind of been putting off reading it because it looked so insanely boring. I've actually read thirteen other books since we decided on "The Thirteenth Tale".. But I finally ran out of things on my to-read list that they actually have at the bookstores here. [There's a lot more on my list, but it looks like I'm going to have to order them..] So I caved. And I started to read it - and it's fascinating. Much better than I expected it to be!
Also, I made some nutcakes for creative writing tomorrow. We're having a mini party for no real reason, just because it's Friday. And I figured out why the dough was always so dry and hard to handle before.. I'd been mixing in the wet ingredients with a wooden spoon initially, before kneading it with my hands. But you have to mix it in with your hands right from the start, immediately after dumping in the egg yolk and the melted butter. [Make sure the melted butter has cooled a little before you plunge your hands into it, though.] The rest of the ingredients, which you mix together before you add the egg yolk and the butter, are fine to mix with the wooden spoon [this includes the almond extract]. It's just the egg and butter you have to knead in by hand. It's messy, but fun. I might post up the revised recipe later. Also, note: After you take the chilled dough out of the fridge and have the first batch on the pan and in the oven, put the dough back into the fridge. If you let it defrost further while the first batch is cooking, then if you put the second batch in for the same period of time as you did the [perfect] first batch.. The second batch will burn. Because the dough wasn't properly chilled. The dough may seem a little difficult to handle chilled, but you get the hang of it.
There was a thing on MSNBC tonight, an interview with two women who grew up in the Church of Scientology, because their parents were members. They were talking about their experiences there, and how if someone left the church they were no longer allowed to have any contact at all with that person - even if it was their own parents. Also, if you are in the "Sea Organization", which is sort of Scientology's version of clergy, and you get pregnant, you are forced to either leave the church or get an abortion. I'm pro-choice - but that's just it. Choice. Co$ takes away that choice. I was very pleased to see that the Anonymous protests got some air time on the program. They don't get enough press. Unfortunately, I missed the part of the program where Co$ responded to these two women speaking out because I had to run and get the nutcakes out of the oven, then stick the [doomed] second batch in.
I made a little bit of headway on fixing up my brother's website. Mostly all I did was fix the grammar and phrasing of what he already had written up on there, and moved a couple of things around. I'm still getting the hang of the way this particular site works.. I think it may allow me to do straight html, which may prove to be easier.. But I'll try to work with its "WebSite Tonight" thing first.
And that has pretty much been my day. I have my last English standardized test on Monday. It's no writing, just fill-in-the-bubble on the computers, so I'm pretty optimistic about it. Only four more Mondays left of school! Woohoo! 10 more days until "The Host" is released! Oh, and my English teacher nominated me for this Outstanding Students breakfast thing next Friday, so that's kind of nice. I'll get a little certificate and everyone will clap, and that will be it. But hey, colleges will like it. I just better get all my English make-up work in to her before then... I've made a vow to myself to have it all done and turned in to her by Monday, though. And she heard me vow it, so this isn't one of those vows that I only make in my head that I can sidle out of. Oh, crap. I have a history test tomorrow, and I so don't know the material.. I may have to Water Bottle this test..
