Much ado about nothing..

I wore my Slytherin shirt today and, as always, was feeling pretty badass because of it. At the end of third hour English, a bunch of us were milling about at the door, waiting for the bell to ring for us to go to lunch. I was there, as was The Italian. He was talking to some other people, and I was pretty much just chilling by myself. I happened to glance at him, and caught him looking at me. He turned back to his conversation. Meanwhile, in my head I was all, "Yeah, baby, I see you, baby." You know. As a part of the ridiculous running monologue going on up there.

I happened to glance back to him, and he was looking at me again. I was lovin' the Slytherin shirt. Then, all of a sudden, he was walking towards me. I had a moment of glee, and simultaneously a moment of panic. "Do you really want random Harry Potter fans thinking you're evil?" He asked in a friendly, poking-fun manner. I grinned and said, spreading my coat a bit to show off the shirt better, "Of course! Slytherin rules all!" After that pause in front of me, he went past to talk to someone on the other side of the room. My brain unable to catch up with that just yet, I continued speaking to thin air and myself, "Slytherin is awesome."

Yeah, I know, he's either a stoner or stupid for associating with stoners. But it's the most action I've gotten in months, alright? This is not counting the creepy guy at Best Buy. Have I mentioned the creepy Best Buy guy before? I don't think I have.

Well, I was in Best Buy with my dad, looking for a PDA to buy my mom so she could put a couple nursing programs on it in order to help with her new job, along with it sort of being a congrats-on-getting-the-job thing. My dad was grumbling over the prices and comparing two PDAs, so I drifted off to gaze wistfully at the laptops, visualizing myself in New York City cafes, sipping coffee as I type up what would one day be my most famous novel...

"Did you need help finding something?" I turned, and there was one of the ever-present-breathing-down-your-neck Best Buy employees. He looked to be in maybe his late twenties or early thirties, and was Native American - but not in the hot, Jacob-from-"Twilight" way. No, he had none of the aristocratic features, just an uneven blend of Native American features and Caucasian features. His hair was long and tied in a ponytail, but it was pretty much a greasy/stringy/frizzed combo. "Oh, no, I'm just looking for now," I said with a thanks-anyway smile.

He winked at me, and said, "Right on." Except it was more of a "Raaht awwwn." You know. In the I'm-hitting-on-you way.

I smiled nervously this time, and began to edge away. My first thought was, "You're old." [Even though late-twenties-early-thirties isn't really that old. But I distinctly remember that as my very first thought.] My next thought was, "Daaaddy...? I think we should go." I quickly edged back over to my dad and began talking loudly to him, to make sure the message got across that I was here with my father, who may or may not know kung-fu.

P.S. My dad totally doesn't know kung-fu. He's not groovy like that.

In other news.. Do you remember that research paper that I was writing on the AIDS crisis, and what should be done about it and such? The paper that I started and finished the night before it was due? I found out today that I got a 99% on it. I try to tell people that procrastination works for me, that I work well under pressure, stress, and terror, but do they listen? Nooooo.

And I know it's a bit early, but hey, February will be upon us before we know it. So I looked on V-Day.org and found out that there's actually going to be quite a few events for V-Day in my area! I'm totally psyched. For those of you who don't know: V-Day is a non-profit organization that raises awareness and funds for grassroots women's shelters. It was brought to life by the author of "The Vagina Monologues", and always includes a performance of TVM as part of the fund-raising festivities. The "V" in V-Day stands for Valentine, Vagina, and Victory. It's on February 14th - reclaiming Valentine's day until violence towards women stops. When V-Day is no longer needed, then it shall become Victory Day.
