It's not brain surgery, people

I hate it when people nit-pick and bitch about how hard living in Japan is.

OK, so I just made a bitchy post about the train system failure a few days ago... but that's not the kind of thing I'm talking about. It's just that people act so damn helpless. I read LJ's of other expats and wonder, why the hell are you even here? If it's so fucking ( Read more... )

Go, Shana! Haha. This post was funny.

I went there for Spring Break, and didn't find the language barrier to be particularly difficult to break through at all. And more ppl there speak English than I initially thought, or at least understand.

Thanks XD

Hope you had fun on your Spring Break... if I know you at all, a lot of shopping was involved XD

The language barrier is not a big issue, and I hate that people make such a big deal about it. -_- As you mentioned, a lot of people speak fairly decent English. I think that Americans just like to bitch a lot and make a huge deal about everything... or at least that's the impression I get from reading expat LJ's.

Yeah I never get people who go abroad & all they do is whine & bitch about everything, it's not hard to enjoy the culture, it's fun to get lost anyway, it's a great to discover things you never would have otherwise...

I never make too many plans when abroad, I just tend to wander & get lost, I plan to do that a lot when in Tokyo, I can't wait XD!!!

Yeah. People just need to quit their bitchin' and get along with their lives. e_e

There are some areas of Tokyo that are fun to get lost and wander around it, but I'm afraid there are others that are very boring. D: Choose your place to get lost in wisely and fun shall ensue.

I have a quick question for you, knowledgeable one :D!

If I buy a JRPass do I need to get a metro pass as well to use all the subways?

You'd need a metro pass I believe, since the subways are run by a seperate company. All of the people I know who go to work by both JR and subway have seperate commuter passes for each leg of the journey. Let me know if you have any other questions, I shall try my best to be of service. n_n

Ooo! Thank you for all your help its much appriciated! Do you know if these are only purchasable in Japan? I know I can get the JR Pass over here so thats getting sorted, but not sure about the metro passes.

Not sure, as I've never bought one. I think it might be something you have to buy in Japan-- but that's pretty easy. The guys in the teiki/commuter pass room/counter in most subway stations could most likely hook you up pretty easily. Some metro passes can (I believe) be bought from vending machines, too, so even if you can't buy them from overseas it's a fairly painless process. ^_^

Sooo...I'm new to LJ and was browsing through WHS and burchell stuff, saw your name pop up twice and decided to check it out. Glad I did! Damn your stuff is hilarious, and very truthful too! This post of yours, even though it is from 06, is my fav! I love Japan too but I wasn't (I don't think) able to be there as long as you. Made me Japan-sick to read your posts. Inside my head I'm going "Oooohh goooddd I wish I was back there again!"

Thank god I never had the (DIS-)pleasure of being groped on the train. I was, thankfully, squished in between class mates and never sat too close to dirty old men (or young men).

LoL, well, just ...being a creepy person and leaving random comments on people's pages that I don't even know just because I think their posts are hilarious.

Ciao D:
