Karin doesn't understand, but she tells him okay, because this is the only thing that she can do for him. Her touch is unwanted, and any more words than necessary will only push him farther away. From her, and Juugo, and Suigetsu.
It is then that she realizes that she doesn't only want Sasuke, she wants them. She wants Juugo and Suigetsu, too. She wants Hebi. She wants a family. She wants to belong.
Sasuke has given her the closest thing that she's ever had to belonging. Together, they are the Snake. Stalking their prey, striking. Together, they find vengeance for Sasuke, a sword for Suigetsu, piece of mind for Juugo, a purpose for her. It has given them a team.
However, just as quickly, Sasuke has snatched everything away as well. Rather, the taint has smothered it all, till Karin feels like she can't think or even breathe under the stench of it. Not even Hebi can exists under the weight of it. He says they shall be Taka, as if changing the name means that he can change everything--them included. Karin doesn't know how to be different. She doesn't know how to belong to Taka, how to dream about this, or Sasuke, in the days that follow.
It moves too quickly for her to keep up with, anyway. There are the red clouds, Unraikyo. The flash of light brimming just beneath Sasuke's skin before he is consumed by everything dark that Karin has been dreaming of. But she will follow him until the end of everything, she promises herself-- quietly, loudly, hoping that somehow this can become real.
There are the Kages, losing Juugo, Suigetsu. The orange mask, the blur between time and space. It speeds things up until she cannot view the world without getting dizzy. Sasuke is fighting. Sasuke is crying tears of blood, the star-shaped pattern on his eyes radiating a madness she has never wanted to see from her savior.
Please, Sasuke-kun, she says to herself. Please, please, please.
Danzou has a kunai at her throat. She is his hostage. She will be sacrificed for Konoha, a village she has never known, and for the ninja world, a world that has never given her a place to exist.
"Sasuke-kun," she says. "Help. Please."
He looks at her. His lips part, his words as sweet as a prayer. "Karin... don't move."
She doesn't feel the pain, like a breath she has never taken, or a song she has never heard. In her mind, she calls out for Juugo, for Suigetsu, for Hebi, for Sasuke-kun, and she wonders how this came to be.
By the time the kunoichi of the Leaf arrives, she has lost enough blood that she's floating. She wants to tell her to run, that her words won't matter, anyway.

Nothing matters to him.
Not Juugo, Suigetsu, Hebi, or her.
She is crying for him, bleeding for him, and he has fallen too far to even comprehend what it means.
When she closes her eyes, there is no dream. There is no Sasuke. His eyes, the last of the Uchiha, are filled with something other than the pride she once followed him for.
She will not follow the look in these eyes until the end of everything.
Three days later, she wakes up in Konoha three days later. They ask her about Sasuke, Orochimaru, Danzo, Madara, Sasuke, Itachi, Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke.
She is reluctant only until she is fed, and they wonder aloud at betrayal.
"He is your teammate," they say to her. Her family. Her everything.
They don't understand. Even if blood is thicker than water, there is but so much she can spill before there is nothing left.
Her dreams are gone, and there is no more left. Not for Sasuke. She wonders, maybe, if there is something left for herself.

The message at the bottom is supposed to beg everyone's forgiveness for all the glaring errors in this, as I wrote it after midnight in about 40 minutes. First Naruto Fic!
