state of the mother

Mom came through surgery beautifully. Wednesday they called us and told us they had to reschedule it to that Friday and I thought I would never get through the week from anxiety. Dad and I got up at 4 in the morning to go down to see her before she went in and then it was a loathesome 7 or so hours of just...waiting and wondering. I found out that in addition to the leaky heart valve she also had an anuerysm on the valve that had to be repaired so yeah...7 hours or so of waiting was torturous. The doctors and nurses were so awesome tho! they kept us up to the minute on the updates and were constantly reassuring us that she was doing fine (to my cuz: she was at Grand Strand and they live up to their reputation for being in the top 5% of cardiac care in the nation) But boy did I thank God a thousand times when it was all over. I just talked to her on the phone and she sounded excellent. My dad's been down there back and forth non-stop. I'm so pleased and RELIEVED it went well. I love her so!

On a lighter note, you do get into the durndest conversations with family early in the morning in an ICU waiting room. Among the random topics discussed (and believe me there were MANY), if it was possible to be savaged by a sloth (I mean would it move so slow you'd have time to escape a mauling? I also voiced the possibility that a pissed off sloth could just climb onto the limb over you and let go and break your skull or something, hey it's a TOTALLY valid method of attacking don't you think? but then I know nothing of sloths) and guinea hens as a fairly inexpensive alternative to an alarm system (apparently they make a racket, they keep ticks out of your yard and their eggs are tough but great for baking...so hey there you go. I'm mighty tempted to get some!)

thank you so much, friends and family for your wishes and prayers and hugs and support <3 <3 <3 I don't think any of us could have made it without it. here's to a speedy recovery...
