author's notes; It was supposed to be a drabble, turned into a 1k words something, after betaing (by ever lovely
bucket_shot ♥) it grew a couple words. Pointless and fluffy.
It was beyond Rin just why exactly they went to Hokkaido for winter holidays. Or maybe it was him who was the odd one out in thinking this. The rest of the team seemed to enjoy themselves greatly. Kai was visibly buzzing with glee. Tanishi also looked genuinely happy. Even Chinen was smiling and Kite seemed more relaxed than usual. They were having fun, while Rin was freezing his feet and hands and face off -- despite the two pairs of socks he wore, the fluffy gloves, the scarf wrapped securely around his neck (and partially his face) and the fluffy (and somewhat dorky) cap. At least his winter jacket was warm enough.
Rin frowned, glaring at Kai, who happened to be the one behind the idea, but it went unnoticed. The redhead was currently busy putting on snowboard shoes. He was taking lessons and had even encouraged Rin to do so as well. But no, his blonde teammate did not want to have anything to do with this cold, white abomination that crunched mockingly beneath his frozen feet. He just stuck around at the top of the slopes, sitting on a chair in front of the resort's restaurant where it was relatively warmer and he could easily get hot drinks.
Chinen and Tanishi picked skiing. While Shiranui and Aragaki surprised everyone with their skills, right now they were having their fun on the slopes.
Kite was sitting with Rin, visibly relaxed and comfortable and not emanating dark vibes like the blonde. Everyone's good mood only served to irritate him further, in belief that at least one other person should share his suffering, damnit.
He ignored a look from Kite, but couldn't do the same thing when Kite asked him what was wrong.
"Isn't it obvious? I hate the snow, I hate the cold, I'd rather be on the beach right now." The scarf muffled his voice, but the other was sitting close enough that it didn't matter.
"Then why did you come with us?" Kite's tone was stained with amusement, which Rin usually looked forward to hearing, but right now not so much. He didn't like the fact that Kite was enjoying his suffering.
"Because! It's our last winter holiday together," he pouted, puffing his cheeks out in an unhappy huff.
"So? There's still the summer holidays," this time Kite even raised an eyebrow, possibly thinking Rin was being unreasonable -- as he was prone to doing sometimes.
"Doesn't matter..." Unreasonable or not, it was hard to change Rin's mind, or brighten his mood when he was this unhappy. Kite sighed inaudibly, before continuing,
"You said yourself that these are the winter holidays, Rin, and they wanted a real winter. And snow. And you know we rarely get that in Okinawa." Logical answers were no help either, apparently, as Rin retreated further into his scarf, leaving only his eyes visible. He didn't answer, and Kite let the silence stretch on for a while.
After a couple long minutes, he spoke up again, sharing information that'd certainly make Rin happy (though perhaps a bit pissed at first as well), "You do know they have hot springs here, don't you, Rin?" Of course he knew Rin didn't: when grumpy, the blonde boy rarely noticed anything that wasn't his reason for irritation.
As he suspected, Rin spun around suddenly and grabbed a fistful of Kite's jacket, golden eyes as wide as saucers, "Why are you only telling me this NOW?" he almost yelled. Though surprisingly, he didn't seem angry, just surprised.
Kite didn't let anything show on his face, although there was a smile threatening to quirk his lips upwards, "I thought you'd notice yourself," he shrugged, staring right back into Rin's eyes.
"Where?" Now there was a hint of desperation in both Rin's voice and eyes, and for once, Kite decided to not be too sadistic.
"I'll show you."
As Kite anticipated again, Rin jumped to his feet and almost pulled Kite with him. Quickly enough they were at the resort's hot springs and Rin was halfway undressed. Kite only watched, inwardly amused, outwardly not letting anything on. When the blonde was down to his boxers, he looked up. "Aren't you going to join me?"
One pale eyebrow quirked, to which Kite raised an eyebrow of his own. "Should I?"
Rin just shrugged in answer, and only when he was about to jump into a shower did he note that Kite had, in fact, started undressing himself as well. No words were spoken when Rin showered thoroughly, then went straight into the pool full of hot water. It was an indoors hot spring, which, given the outside weather, was much better in the blonde's opinion. Even if there was no nice view. It was no big deal, though, the interior was elegant enough and easy on the eye. He slipped in all at once, hissing at the burning sensation in his frozen limbs. Submerged up to his chin, he closed his eyes.
Few minutes later he heard soft steps. Rin could say it was Kite without opening his eyes and didn't open his eyes when the other slipped into the tub either. Nor when he heard a soft sigh. He didn't open his eyes when he felt Kite shift, but warm fingers on his chin, raising it, did the job and Rin found himself gazing up into his friend's eyes for a second. A brief second, because then Kite got much too close and Rin felt a brush of thin lips against his own and then slightly painful bite on his lower lip, quickly soothed with a warm tongue.
Then Kite pulled away and sat opposite Rin, who flushed darkly, but he told himself it was the heat, not embarrassment. He submerged lower, kicking Kite in the shin underwater. The other winced, but unfortunately it did not wipe that smug expression of his face. "Consider it payment for bringing you here." Smug and amused. The blonde wanted to kick him again, maybe somewhere where it hurt more, but instead he just looked away, fuming again and plotting how he could get Kite back for this.
