meanwhile, back in the Nexus... feline_casanova July 23 2006, 01:03:53 UTC
::Yohji arrives at Asuka's apartment carrying a 6-pack of beer because it's only polite to bring beer when you're showing up unannounced at a friend's place. He knocks on the front door with his free hand.::

::No answer. She must be out. But, wait, he can hear music coming from inside. He knocks again.::

::Still no answer. Yohji frowns. It's not like Asuka to leave the radio on while she's not at home. He tries to open the door, but it's locked.::

::The music stops momentarily, then the very same song starts over again. A knot of fear forms in the pit of Yohji's stomach.::

::Paranoid, Kudoh. You're being paranoid. This doesn't stop him from pulling his lock-picking kit out of his coat. Asuka's so going to kick my ass when she finds out I broke into her apartment.::Yohji's breath catches in his throat when he sees the state of the apartment. His eyes linger on the splatters of blood and some part of his brain points out that there's not nearly enough for anyone to have bled to death, so, really, he should stop just standing there ( ... )

With that sort of panic, Nagi would know who was at his door whether he wanted to or not. The door swings open, and he glares from across the room, his lingering hangover not making for a happy Nagi.

"What? Are your soap operas starting or something? I said you could use my TV, but I didn't think you were this hard-up to do it."

::he steps into your apartment; he's too focused to even notice that you're annoyed, let alone care::

Asuka's gone. Someone took her. Destroyed her apartment. I need all the information you've got on her world and on Masafumi.

Nagi heads for his computer room before Yohji even finishes talking. "You don't have time for all of it."

Nagi grabs three print outs. "This is PINpoint coordinants specifically for that world. This is the lab blueprints. This is the plan we made assuming that they didn't know about the portal." Nagi wants that laptop, this knife, this gun will do, these wires might be helpful...

Nagi looks at Yohji. "Do we risk using the the portal since they seem to know about it?"

My guess is they're going to have guards on the portal because Takatori isn't stupid. ::pulling on his gloves as he talks:: Is there somewhere in the lab we could PINpoint to where there aren't likely to be a lot of people?

"The locations I have might be populated depending on the time of day. Better to go somewhere a block or so away and at least get the time before we enter the building."

Nagi looks around and makes sure he has what he'll need. "Do you have a gun?"

::shakes his head:: Just my wire and a couple knives. You think I'll need one?

Sounds like a plan. Anything else I should know before we go in?

Nagi checks another gun for bullets, checks the safety and hands it to Yohji. "Never hurts to have a spare weapon."

Nagi points at the blueprints. "If it's day, we'll go here. If it's night we'll go here. Either way, we're headed for this area. And..." Nagi looks away under the pretext of getting the PINpoint ready to go. "If you can manage it, don't hurt Töt, ok?"

::nod:: Not unless I've got no other choice.

Let's do it.

::magical PINpoint powers activate!::

The lights from the police cars are visible from the next street, as are the Hazmat workers in bright orange suites. The area where the lab used to be has been taped off.

A few tired looking reporters are arguing with equally tired looking police officers. Most of the reporters and all the police officers are wearing doctor's masks. Neither groups seem to notice the new arrivals.

The rancid smell from the green smoke still lingers in the air.

::Yohji stops when he sees the lights, pulling out his cigarettes and lighter so no one wonders why he's stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. He looks at Nagi and speaks under his breath:: Can you use your telepathy to figure out what's going on, or are there too many people around?

Nagi manages to look annoyed, though he's actually reeling from the sheer number of minds around him. This area isn't supposed to be this crowded! "Way too many. Can you flirt it out of a reporter instead? The rubble's the place we wanted."

Nagi looks around for a shop with a TV or an internet cafe or something.

I'll see what I can do.

::he studies the reporters carefully, trying to pick out the youngest and least experienced since they're the most likely to give him information; ah, there we go::

Be back in a minute.

Nagi nods. He watches Yohji out of the corner of his eye, but, hey, there's a TV showing some local news. The weather report is so not what Nagi wants, but maybe they'll cover the stuff about the building in the next segment.

And conveniently enough, the next segment is about the fire:

"Fire investigators say the fire at the Takatori research facility that resulted in the deaths of at least four people was caused by arson."

Cue footage of Asuka being lifted on to the ambulance.

"The only known survivor was taken to Magic Bus hospital..."

::It amazes Yohji how often "can I get a light?" actually works as a means of starting conversation. It's just such a cliche.

The reporter either doesn't know much or just doesn't want to talk about what happened at the lab, but she's more than happy to complain that the police at the Magic Bus wouldn't give her any information on the survivors. She also gives Yohji her phone number. She's cute, and he's almost sorry that he won't have the chance to use it.

He strolls vack over to where Nagi is watching TV.::

The survivors of whatever happened here were all taken to the Magic Bus Hospital. ::nods at the TV:: Anything interesting there?
