This is stupid
Good Lord. Elizabeth got her cell phone taken up at school. They say she won't get her phone back for 30days. Not cool. I have a call in now to the vice principal or whatever he is. That school has more vice principals (5).... I hate this school system! No she shouldn't have had the phone at school, according to her she wasn't using it, just checking the time...not sure I believe that either. However in looking at the school board policy and the school handbook, it looks like they are not entitled to take it for that long. ARGH.
Toms opinion is that we let her deal with this as "she is an adult now let her fight her own battles" My position is that my mother has helped me out for so long it's my job/duty to help out my child. In some way my position is that it's her own damn fault let her suffer the consequences. Part of me says tough, damn what a shame, etc.
I guess I mostly want to know if this has happened before. I think the policy is bullshit, kids are gonna have them anyway, if you are going to have a cell phone policy it is better to have one that is easier for the teachers to deal with as well as control the usage. One of the high schools in Knoxville has a policy that says that kids may have cell phones but they must be off and placed on the corners of the desks at the beginning of each class. This way if they are used the teachers can see it and deal with it instead of the kids using them anyway just covertly.
