A new year, yet again

2007 didn't end well, hopefully 2008 will bring better things.
I was throwing a stick for Yakima yesterday and suddenly she just dropped it and lifted her front right leg. I checked to see if she stepped on something but found nothing. Normally she'll just limp a few steps and then walk normally again but this time she kept jumping on three legs and seemed very sore. I carried her for a bit (lucky she's not very big) and then I met an elderly couple who live nearby. They felt very sorry for Kima so they went and got their car and drove me over to my parents place so I didn't have to carry her the whole way (about 3km through the terrain in the forest and up the hill). I can't get in touch with any vet, so we'll just have to wait and see until the holidays are over. She's still sore today and limps a lot, but she'll allow me to bend and stretch all joints and toes so nothing's broken. Her wrist is swollen and sore so hopefully it's just a bad sprain. Guess the dog show on Saturday is out of the question!
And Ruby went into heat on the 30th, so she can't go either. I'm still not sure wether to bring her to Stockholm or not, a friend in Lund has offered to mind her for me until sunday but maybe it's better for Yakima if Ruby comes with us so she doesn't have to fly all alone. And then another friend can mind her during the days in Stockholm while I am on the expo. Decisions decisions!!

New Years Eve was nothing special, I was sitting alone in my parents place with the dogs and cats watching fireworks below the hill, drinking WKD in front of the open fire. The fireworks were quite impressive as I could see all the displays across the peninsula, there were hundreds! Ruby was mesmerised, standing in the armchair by the window looking out at all the bright lights with a very waggly tail! Yakima hates fireworks and bangers, she's very scared of loud noises so she hid under the table.
I got to bed at 2.30am and the cats woke me this morning at 8, telling me it was DEFINITLY time for breakfast. It's a bleak morning, 0,4 degrees Celcius out, a touch of frost on the ground and some snow flakes swirling in the air. I've already got the fire going (I'm quite proud of myself!) so I think I'll just grab a book and relax for a few hours. And do some laundry. *sigh*
