I recently discovered that Jess is visiting next week, not this week like I initially thought. And while it's better to find this out now instead of when I'm waiting for her a week early at the airport, it still puts a bit of a damper on this week. So to take my mind off it, I focus on another thing to look forward to in early April: seeing Sondre Lerche with Liana at the Paradise.
I've been trying to figure out why my reaction to seeing him is something along the lines of a delayed teenybopper, since when you get down to it he is mostly just a very good singer/songwriter with several well-written songs and one that has been my all time favorite for a few years now ("Two Way Monologue" if you really want to know). He is, for lack of a better word, just good. I mean, he certainly writes catchy tunes, even if the lyrics are something to be questioned
"One hundred thousand cars have passed this house
The celebration starts with laughter"
"When tears are pretzels pouring down each time the sweetness is returning
at times when you appreciate that you survived"
To his credit, Norwegian is his native language, and it's got to be hard to write lyrics in a language you're not born speaking. But still...the hell?
I mean, I really like the guy and his music, but I still can't figure out why I tend to squeel when I bring up the fact that I'm seeing him in April.
Oh yeah...now I remember...
