Starbucks update.
I went in today and saw the bad-drink-making, ugly-pink-lipstick-wearing, always-frowning-and-glaring barista at the espresso bar. Worse, I didn't see any of the three baristas I actually chat with. Still, I tried to look really sweet and friendly when it was my turn to order.
“I’m really sorry if I sound like a high-maintenance bitch, but the last few times I got my drink, the ice was put in first so that nothing blended and the ice all melted by the time I got to my car, and I’m just hoping the ice can be added in last.”
The girl was really nice, clarified what I wanted, and wrote “Ice last” on my cup, and then the other girl working near the register (my Starbucks does a thing where they’re busy - one person writes on the cups, one person rings, one person works the espresso bar) asked if my drink was bad once, and I said, “Actually, it’s been bad the last few times” so they gave it to me free! And were totally nice!
Well, then I get over to the espresso bar to wait, and Pink Lipstick is bein’ all low-talky and grumbly to everyone else. She still kind of fucks up my drink, though it’s MUCH better. She put in so much milk that there wasn’t much room for ice. But, whatever, at least it didn’t melt. When she called out my drink she was as bitchy as ever, but I thanked her profusely. She turned from me and wouldn’t make eye contact. I guess I wouldn't want to be all friendly with someone who'd just insulted my drink-making skillz, but I really had been polite about it. I never had any complaints about my barista skillz, but I know I wasn't exactly great in retail, and when I heard a complaint through another coworker, I did my best to make sure the customer knew I felt bad about it and tried to improve.
Ah, whatever. I'm moving in less than a month and soon this will no longer by my regular Starbucks! It's still the closest one to many of my friends, though, so I know I'll be going there still on occasion.
