“He’s in the back” Kame’s mother says as she opens the door for him and lets him step inside the house.
“Thanks” Jin smiles, shuffling out his shoes and she smiles back before she walks into the kitchen.
Jin hears the sound of laughter as he makes his way through the house and towards the open door to the back yard. He stops in the doorway and chuckles when he sees Kame dressed in nothing but a pair of blue swimming trunks and his niece dressed in a flowery bathing suit. They’re running around the garden and she’s spraying Kame with water from a water gun. Jin stands and watches them play around for a while, not making his presence known until Kame stumbles over and falls into the small kiddy pool, splashing water all over himself. Jin can’t help but laugh along loudly with the little girl as he moves away from the doorway and they both look in his direction.
“Jin-kun!” the girl shrieks in glee, dropping her water gun and runs up to him.
“Princess” Jin picks her up under the armpits and swirls her around in the air a few times before planting a kiss on her forehead and letting her back down on the ground. He looks over at the pool where Kame is still lying with a joyous smile. Jin smiles back as he walks closer to the pool.
“Watch were you’re running” Jin says and reaches out a hand to help Kame out of the water.
“Look who’s talking” Kame replies making an attempt to grab Jin’s hand but before he does, Jin stumbles forward with a yelp. Something or rather someone pushed him and Jin barely manages to keep himself from falling over and join Kame in the pool.
“What the-?” Jin turns his head around to look at the cute little culprit who is trying to muffle her giggles with her hands.
“What the-?” Jin repeats how own words when he feels Kame grab a hold of his wrist and tug at it, hard. This time Jin loses his balance and falls over and into the pool. He lands almost on top of a laughing Kame. Kame’s niece has dropped her hands and is now laughing hysterically as Jin tries to sit up.
“What did you do that for?” he asks trying to sound annoyed but it’s hard when Kame and the princess look genuinely happy.
“You looked like you needed to cool down” Kame smirks moving around in the small space to find a more comfortable spot.
“Very funny” Jin says rolling his eyes but he has to admit that it really feels nice sitting in the cooling water. It’s been hot for days and today is no exception. The sun is gazing above them and the rays makes Kame’s wet skin sparkle. He pulls his sticky t-shirt over his head and throws it away.
“Jin-kun!” Kame’s niece shrieks as the wet piece of clothing accidentally hits her. Jin starts laughing and so does Kame but the little princess in flowery bathing suit doesn’t think it is fun at all. She picks the offending piece of cloth up from the ground with a glare and then throws it back at Jin with all her might. It lands with a small splash right in front of Jin and some water droplets lands on his face. Jin just smirks as he stands up in the pool with the drenched piece of clothing in his hand. She shrieks in a mix of fear and delight and starts running. Jin follows her and her loud voice fills the air. They run around the house and once they’re back by the pool again she runs and stands behind Kame. She throws her arms around his neck where he’s still basking in the water.
“Save me Kazu” she pleads as Jin slowly approaches them.
“Of course I will” Kame says patting her head but he has a sneaky glint in his eyes that doesn’t go unnoticed by Jin. Kame’s up to something. He quickly gets out of the pool and picks the girl up in one swift movement only to throw her into the pool the next one.
“Uncle Kazuya!” she scrams on the top of her lungs. “You tricked me!”
“I’m sorry” Kame laughs as she with a glare gets out of the pool and with determined steps walk towards the house.
“I hate you” she stops in the doorway.
“No you don’t” Kame smiles. “What do you say about going out for some ice cream?”
She turns around to walk inside without giving an answer but then turns back around.
“Where?” she asks and Jin can’t help but to chuckle.
“Your favourite place, the one with the smiling ice cream cone on the sign,” Kame replies giving Jin a brief smile of amusement.
“Okay, but I still hate you” she huffs and then disappears inside.
“She’ll love me again once she’s gotten her ice cream” Kame muses as he picks up the water gun from the grass. He points it at Jin with a smirk. “Hands up”
Jin chuckles and throws his hands up in the air. Kame moves closer, the gun still pointed and once Kame is close enough it makes contact with Jin’s chest. They eye each other for a brief second before they both lean in for a kiss but they’re interrupted before their lips even meets.
“Hurry up!” Kame’s niece calls from the doorway. She’s already changed into a violet summer dress with butterflies. “I want ice cream”
They both sigh in disappointment as they move away from each other.
“We’re coming!” Kame calls back before he turns to give Jin a slightly apologetic smile. Jin smiles back and takes Kame’s hand in his. Kame has nothing to apologize for, he can’t help that his niece almost always has the worst kind of timing.
“Let’s go” Jin says leaning Kame towards the house where the princess is now almost jumping with glee and excitement. Jin chuckles. The prospect of getting ice cream sure can do wonders sometimes.
