Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot.
A/N: Written for jeanngriffin  and based on her prompts: Nishikato, Akame and doctor or detective. As you can figure out from the title I went with detectives and I hope that you will enjoy with what I came up with even if the end is kind of bad SORRY! This is also my first time writing Nishikato as well as a detective story so I hope I didn’t fail too much. Also, since I wanted to post this now before I go to sleep, I have only had time to look for grammar/spelling mistakes once so I’m sorry if any of that is still in here.
Now, everyone please enjoy this and comments would be very much loved :)

Ryo leaned back into the chair and put his feet up to rest on top of the desk in front of him while he lit up yet another cigarette. He was bored out of his mind. They hadn’t had any new interesting and exciting cases in days. He puffed out some smoke, not the least bothered that he was causing his partner to cough. Shige, his partner, both in work and in bed, lifted his gaze up from his paper work to glare at him but Ryo ignored him and puffed out some more smoke. He shuffled in his chair as he moved his feet on the table so that his ankles crossed and they landed on top of the papers Shige was looking through.

“Move it” Shige muttered and pushed Ryo’s feet out of the way.

“Shut up and move yourself” Ryo snarled back, he was so bored that even starting an argument with Shige, which he knew he would win quickly seemed really appealing. He puffed some more smoke at Shige and brought him to cough again.

“This-“ Shige started but was interrupted by a knock on the door and instead of continuing with what he was about to say he got up from his chair to opened it.

“What do you want?” Ryo asked putting out his cigarette in Shige’s almost empty coffee cup, as two men stepped in through the door. The man who stepped in first looked like he had walked right out from one of the pages of those fashion magazine’s his earlier partner Masuda used to read, while the other looked like he had just made it out of bed.

“My name is Kamenashi Kazuya” the fashionably looking man said and bowed down politely, first at Ryo and then at Shige who was now busy getting out chairs for the newcomers to sit in.

“Akanishi Jin” the other man said with a lazy nod as he tried to force back a yawn and Ryo thought that maybe this man really had just made it out of bed.

“You’re the detectives Nishikido-san and Kato-san, right?” Kamenashi said, more as a statement than a question as he took a seat in one of the chairs.

“That’s correct” Ryo moved his feet down from the desk. “You have a case for us?”

“Yes” Kamenashi nodded and suddenly he seemed rather upset.

“Okay spit it out” Ryo lit another cigarette and pointed with it at his partner. “Shige take notes”

“Already am” Shige replied as he sat down in his own chair while scribbling in his blue notebook.

“So go on Kamenashi” Ryo motioned with his hands for the man to start talking again.

“Ran-chan’s gone. She’s disappeared” Kamenashi started, his voice breaking slightly as he spoke. It would be obvious to anyone that this matter was really upsetting the man.

“So, so” Akanishi reached out a hand to squeeze Kamenashi’s shoulder in a comforting manner. “I’m sure Nishikido-san and Kato-san will be able to find her in no time”

“Of course we will” Ryo snorted. “So tell me more about this Ran-chan. Is she your girlfriend? Wife? Sister?”

“No, no” Kamenashi shook his head. “She’s my dog. My beloved dog”

“Dog?” Shige looked up from his notebook with a confused look. Ryo couldn’t blame him, after all this was their first case with a missing dog.

“Yes, dog” Kame nodded. “She was gone this morning when I went out to the kitchen to take her out on our morning walk. At first I thought that maybe she had woken up already and was off playing somewhere, it doesn’t happen often, but occasionally she does. So I went looking for her around the house but I couldn’t find her anywhere.” Kamenashi seemed close to tears and Ryo couldn’t help himself from scrunch his face up in disgust. He really couldn’t understand how people could grow so attached to something that licked its own ass. “So then I rushed into the bedroom and woke Jin up to-“

“You two live together?” Ryo cut Kamenashi of in his story.

“Yeah, we do” Akanishi answered before Kamenashi could and sent Ryo a warning look as if he expected him to have something against it. Ryo couldn’t blame him, they probably shocked just as many people as Ryo and Shige did when people found out that they were together.

“Okay, so you went and woke up Akanishi” Ryo said and motioned for Kamenashi to continue.

“Yes, and he helped me search some more but we still couldn’t find Ran-chan” Kamenashi bit down on his lower lip as if he was preventing himself from starting to cry.

“So then you came to us?” Ryo asked glancing over at Shige who was still scribbling down every word that was said. Shige had that serious look on his face that Ryo loved but would never in the world admit he did. Not to a single soul.

“Yes, we’ve heard through people that you’re the best detective around” Kamenashi explained.

“Then you’ve heard correct” Ryo commented proudly. “So far we’ve managed to solve every case that’s come in our way.”

“So, are you sure you’ve searched everywhere?” Shige asked looking up from his notes and his question received nods from both Akanishi and Kamenashi.

“Okay, so do you know if there is anyone who’d want to hurt either of you?” Ryo dropped his cigarette on the floor and put it out with his foot.

“No, we haven’t pissed anyone of in ages” Kamenashi replied “Except for each others. And I’ve never had any real enemies”

“Anyone who’d be out to hurt the dog then? An angry neighbor?” Ryo continued to ask.

“No, everyone loves Ran-chan, well except for our friend Koki-kun” Kamenashi answered. “But he would never hurt her. He’s just more of a cat person than a dog person, and he really is a sweetheart”

“Hmm, okay. And you’re sure that this Koki-kun would never hurt her?” Ryo glanced over at Shige again.

“Yes” Kamenashi nodded. “And if I remember correctly he’s out of town this week”

“I see. Then I guess we’ll have to go to your house and take a closer look at the crime scene” Ryo placed his hands on top of the desk and heaved himself up from his seat. “Shige, get me my coat”

“Get it yourself” Shige snapped back packing down the notebook he had been writing in into his bag of detective equipment. “I’m not your slave”

Ryo glared at Shige but didn’t reply since what he wanted to say really wasn’t appropriate to say in front of other people. Instead he walked up to the coat racket and took his coat himself.

Half an hour later Ryo found himself stepping inside a rather big, and really fashionably decorated entrance hall. He looked around the room with a pleased look on his face. This client sure seemed to have a lot of money and rich people always had enemies. No matter how nice you are, if you have a lot of money then you can be sure that at least one person hates your guts, even if it is in secret. Ryo would make sure to milk as much money as possible out of this client.

“So, show us where her basket is” Ryo said stepping out of his shoes and motioned for Shige to take out the notebook again. “Where it is she should’ve been when you went to get her”

“She has a name” Kamenashi snapped and glared at him.

“So could you please show us Ran-chan’s basket?” Shige asked after he as well had sent of a glare at Ryo. “We’ll have to see if the dognapper has left any clues behind that could help us find Ran-chan”

“Of course. This way” Akanishi said and took a hold of Kamenashi’s hand as he led them all down the hall.

“This is where she sleeps every night together with Jelly” Akanishi explained and pointed at the basket lying in one of the corners in the big kitchen while Kamenashi kneeled down to pat the head of a tiny poodle that had appeared when they entered the room.

“You didn’t tell us you had another dog” Ryo said and looked at the tiny dog with slight disgust. In his eyes that dog looked more like rat, a rather cute rat but still a rat, more than it looked like a dog.

“We didn’t?” Akanishi said and look confounded. “Well, we haven’t had him for that long”

“Well, this makes things a bit more complicated” Ryo pondered. “Why would someone take only one of the dogs and how did the dognapper manage to keep the puppy silent?”

“Is Jelly acting like usual?” Shige butted in without looking up from his notebook. “I mean the dognapper could’ve drugged him”

“No, and he was as lively as usual this morning” Kamenashi replied and lifted up the puppy in his arms. “And he doesn’t even seem the least bit upset that Ran-chan’s gone”

“Oh okay” Shige nodded still not looking up from his scribbling.

“Now” Ryo cleared his throat slightly. “Could you two and the puppy leave the kitchen for a moment while we start searching for clues?”

“Of course” Akanishi answered putting an arm around Kamenashi’s shoulder and started to steer his lover out from the room. “We’ll be out in the garden”

The search through didn’t take too long and was fruitless. There was nothing in the kitchen that seemed out of the ordinary and no signs of a break in which made Ryo really confounded. This dognapper really must be one hell of a skilled person. And why hadn’t the younger dog reacted when a stranger appeared in the middle of the night to take his friend away? It really made no sense at all.

After they had packed their equipments together they exited the house just in time to hear a loud shriek, but it wasn’t a shriek of fear. It was a joyful shriek and when Ryo turned his head in the direction of the sound he found the couple with not only one dog, but two dogs. Kamenashi was holding the new dog in his arms, hugging it close to his chest and showering it with kisses. Ryo frowned at the sight with slight disappointment. It was obvious that the dog was Ran-chan, and that meant that the case was solved already without him being able to really show of his detective skills.

“She appeared by herself, huh?” he said as he strolled over to the couple but Kamenashi paid him no attention.

“Yeah, so it seems” Akanishi replied with a soft chuckle. “Just like I said she would this morning but Kazuya insisted on getting you on the case”

“Well, then I guess this is-“ Ryo started but was interrupted by another shriek. This time it was not a joyful one.

“She’s bleeding!” Kamenashi cried out and held the dog out from his body. “Why is she bleeding?”

Akanishi was soon by his boyfriend’s side and took Ran-chan away from him to examine her and Nishikido noticed the small red stains now decorating Kamenashi’s shirt.

“She doesn’t seem to be hurt anywhere” Akanishi commented as the dog started to squirm in his hands.

“But then why-“Kamenashi started but cut himself of when Ran-chan managed to get out of Akanishi’s hold. As soon as she was down on the ground she started to run with all her might and Jelly, Kamenashi and Akanishi were not late to follow after.

“Should we follow them too?” Shige asked but Ryo just gave a grunt in reply. He wasn’t really that bothered with this case anymore since it was solved, well except for the mysterious bleeding.

“I’ll take that as a no but I will go after anyway” Shige said and started to walk away. Ryo stared after him for a moment, enjoying the sight of Shige’s behind, before he started to move as well. After all he didn’t have anything much better to do and he had never been one for just standing around doing nothing.

When he came up to the group again, they were all kneeling down on the ground between some bushes and watching something in silence.

“What’s going on?” he asked as he pushed some branches away from the bushes to get a look for himself. His eyes widen in surprise at what he saw. “Puppies? The dog had puppies?”

“So it seems” Akanishi replied and turned around to face him. “And we never suspected that she was pregnant”

“I just thought that she had gotten fatter because she was a bit lazier and had a bigger appetite than before” Kamenashi turned around as well. “And I have no idea how this happened. She hasn’t been around other dogs long enough for-“

“Wasn’t she staying at Tatsuya’s place a while back when we went on that weekend trip and he has-” Akanishi interrupted and made his boyfriend gasp.

“He has a golden retriever!” Kamenashi voice hit a higher note.

“So you mean a golden retriever humped this small little thing?” Ryo snorted but it earned him a jab on his shin by Shige which made him hiss in pain.

“So it seems” Kamenashi sighed and seemed unbothered by Ryo’s rude comment. “But what are we going to do with all these puppies?”

“Drown them?” Ryo suggested and earned himself another jab. A jab much harder than the earlier one and this one made him almost stumble over.

“You’re not in the need of a dog in your work are you?” Akanishi asked hopefully. Ryo snorted again and was about to reply when Shige beat him to it.

“No, but I have always wanted a dog” he smiled and jabbed Ryo again since he probably had figured out that Ryo had a rude comment on the tip of his tongue. “And these puppies are adorable”

“They are, aren’t they?” Kamenashi smiled back and then looked at the puppies with adoring eyes. His expression almost made Ryo want to puke but he refrained himself from saying anything since he really didn’t want to get another hard jab.

“We could give you one of these as a part of the payment” Kamenashi suggested. “Well, you’ll have to wait for them to get a bit older first”

“That’d be great, wouldn’t it Ryo?” Shige said and stood up to face Ryo with a big smirk. Ryo glared back at him before he turned to look at the dogs.

“I guess but you’ll pay us in money as well right?” he asked.

“Of course we will” Akanishi reassured getting up from the ground and dusting of his trousers.

“Good” Ryo nodded. “Well I guess our work here is done then. Come on Shige, we’ve got new cases to solve”

“Thanks for all your help” Kamenashi smiled and lifted Jelly up in his arms. Ryo just waved him of as he started to walk away with Shige on his tail. They had only walked a few steps when Ryo realized something and turned back around to face the couple again.

“How do you think she managed to get out of the house?” he asked.

“She rarely does, but she must’ve used the dog door we have down in the basement” Kamenashi shrugged without looking up from playing with Jelly in his embrace. Ryo just groaned and turned back around again. This case had all been a stupid joke and he really wished that their next case would be better, preferably one including a murder and a lot of money.
