Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot.
A/N: I wrote this little thing on the 4 hour bus ride today with the thought that I wanted to write something that would cheer up
pipsqueaks a little (but she might already feel a bit better). Mah, but I really don’t know how good this is and the ending might be a bit abrupt too but I do hope you all will enjoy reading this anyway (^____^)
Ryo looked up and turned his head around from what he was doing when he heard the door to the bar open behind him. A grin appeared on his face when he recognized the person and instantly reached for a bottle of wine.
“You look like shit” Ryo commented as the newcomer sat down by the bar counter and he noticed how tired the other looked.
“Ryo don’t you know that comments like that can make you lose customers” the other replied.
“You’ve complained about my comments more than once before Tatsuya” Ryo smirked placing a wine glass in front of him. “Yet you always show up here the next evening. And anyway it’s not like I would run out of business if you stopped coming. You’re by far my worst customer. Ordering one glass of wine that you will savouring for the whole evening while you just sit there working. I don’t even know what you’re working with.”
He poured some white wine into the glass and then pushed it slightly forwards towards Ueda.
“You might not run out of business but you would miss me” Ueda said taking the glass and lifting it to his lips.
“As if” Ryo snorted putting the cork back on the wine and put it away while Ueda picked out a big pile of papers from his briefcase.
A few minutes went by with the both of them working in silence, Ueda with his papers and Ryo with drying wineglasses while throwing glances at the other every other second.
“This is annoying” Ryo suddenly said as he finished drying the last glass and threw the towel around his neck.
“What is?” Ueda asked looking up from his paper for a short moment.
“You and I” Ryo explained waving his hand between the two of them. “You’ve come here almost every evening for over a month, and even though we’ve come to call each other by first names, I still don’t know anything about you”
“Hmm... I guess that is true” Ueda replied going back to his papers.
“That’s all you’re going to say” Ryo snarled and reached out for the top paper of Ueda’s pile “At least let me know what you work with” he threw a glance at what seemed to be some kind of test.
“I’m an English teacher at an all-girls high school” Ueda snapped the paper back from Ryo’s hand. “And if you excuse me I need to finish correcting these or my students will chop my head of tomorrow”
“English teacher huh” Ryo mused leaning against the counter. “But surely can’t a bunch of high school girls be that bad”
“You should never underestimate anyone, least of all high school girls” Ueda glanced up from the papers again. “If they want something then there is pretty much no limit to what they’ll do to get it, even when it comes to school. And also we’re preparing for the exams that’ll come up in a couple of weeks at the moment which is making them more stressed than usual. Hopefully they’ll calm down afterwards”
Ueda sighed and then took a sip from his glass of wine.
“Ah, well I guess I should let you work in peace then” Ryo nodded and looked towards the door as he heard it opening and a group of new customers walked in. “After all I don’t want to be the reason for you getting executed”
“Thanks” Ueda smiled softly. “You know, I might actually end up buying another glass of wine tonight”
Ryo smiled back and then turned his attention to the newcomers to take their orders.
“No work with you today” Ryo commented as Ueda sat down at his usual seat by the counter two weeks later and there was no sign of briefcase being with him.
“It’s Friday” Ueda replied with a bright smile.
“That hasn’t stopped you from working before” Ryo placed a glass of wine on the counter in front of Ueda.
“True, but I just thought that I’d wait with correcting the exams until Sunday and work with something else tonight” Ueda lifted the glass to his lips and took a sip.
“Huh?” Ryo looked at the other confused by the last part of the other’s comment.
“You wanted to get to know me better, right?” Ueda’s eyes sparkled a little as he smiled at Ryo. “So I thought that we’d work together tonight to improve our knowledge about each other.”
Ryo couldn’t help but smile back at the other as a bubbling feeling slowly started to appear from the pit of his stomach.
