Why Franklin D. Roosevelt is the Wizard of Oz

Urbandictioary.com defines a wizard as someone who uses magic for good purposes. Likewise, Franklin Delano Roosevelt used the New Deal, popularly referred to in underground culture as "White House Magic" in order to increase prosperity in America. However, the New Deal was not really new at all (although it did have a new feel, it borrowed heavily from the Progressive Era)- just as magic is an age-old concept. For these and other reasons, Franklin D. Roosevelt is the Wizard of Oz.

In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy comes from Kansas. Likewise, many people traveled to Washington to voice their grievances and issue their requiests, but the current wizard, Herbert Hoover, was unable to fulfill them. So the munchkins revolted and kicked him out, and elected a new wizard: FDR. Like the wizard of Oz, Delano strived to fulfill the requests his subjects. The wizard of Oz gave the cowardly lion a renewed sense of courage, just as the wizard of Washington gave cowardly Americans a new sense of courage to use banks by enacting the FDIC.

The Wizard of Oz lived in Emerald City. Likewise, F. Delano Roosevelt lived in Washington D.C.

The wizard of Oz was always careful to obscure his true physical state. Similarly, FDR was careful to never be photographed from the waist down in an attempt to hide his polio handicap from the people.

For the reasons stated above, Franklin D. Roosevelt is the wizard of Oz.
