Minneapolis Institute of Arts auf Deutsch

As a change of pace, we decided to go on a field trip for German class this week (my high school alumni class with my HS teacher).  We went to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and went Sunday afternoon rather than during our normal Monday evening time seeing as the MIA is free on Sundays (actually it's always free, but on Sundays they don't give you nasty looks guilting you into giving "voluntary contributions") and isn't open at all on Mondays (good rationale, no?).

It was fun, though we didn't spend very much time there.  I don't know how long it's been since I've been there, but I'm pretty sure I've been to the Art Institute of Chicago more recently, and that's been at least 3 years.  Pathetic, really.

Unfortunately my German vocabulary isn't particularly adept at discussing 15th-18th century European art, which is what we spent most of our time looking at.  We whipped through most of the modern art, mostly because we sort of ended up in that area by accident.  That was pretty fine with me, as I'm really not that huge a fan of modern art.  Oddly enough, however, we walked right past a Picasso - which was located right next to a doorway through which we walked and which was very recognizable as a Picasso, and yet no one else seemed to notice.  Even when I stopped to look at it.  This one:

Later, we were passing through another room, somewhat meanderingly, but somewhat also on a mission to find the restaurant.  And yet only two of us (well, there were only five total) seemed to take note of the Seurat, Van Gogh, Renior, or Matisse, all of which (some in multiples) were taking up residence in said room.  But, who am I to question?

minnehaha, art
