Watching Spiderman 2 made me realise just how predictable I can be when it comes to characters - I love Peter Parker. He's my favourite character in the 'verse, despite the obviously cooler and angstier presence of Harry (who is pretty, and needs to be paired with Peter and/or MJ. Often). One of the best things about the movies is how simply and poignantly they deal with the themes of power and responsibility of the hero, "With great power comes great responsibility". And they also treat the hero like a *person* - one with a life of his own and desires of his own, and not just the shining desire to do good and save the world. Peter Parker is a quiet sort of a guy, not really assertive the way Buffy is; he doesn't think much about himself, either. And so he puts up with all the crap that he gets and does his job until it gets really bad, and only *then* he asks whether he shouldn't be allowed to have a private life too. And it's all very complicated, because while being Spiderman is a responsibility he never wanted, it's also *given* him things, although you could argue that the things he's lost are considerably more than what he's gained.

spiderman, heroes, i am predictable
