star-spangled panties

+ So Tabrett Bethel has been cast in a pilot! \0/ On ABC's Poe, featuring Edgar Allen Poe, the world's first detective ('world's' first detective? really?):

Australian actress Tabrett Bethell has been cast in the ABC drama pilot Poe. The crime procedural, from Warner Bros. TV and Dan Lin’s Lin Pictures, centers on the world’s first detective, Edgar Allan Poe, who uses unconventional means to uncover mysteries. The series is set in Boston during the 1840s.

Bethell, whose previous TV credits include Legend of the Seeker, has been cast as Sarah. She joins previously cast actors Kevin McNally and Leslie Odom Jr.

Chris Hollier (Alias, Kyle XY) will write and executive produce the pilot, with Lin (The Departed, Sherlock Holmes) and Brad Kern (Human Target, Charmed) joining him as executive producers. Alex Graves (Terra Nova, Fringe) is on board to direct.

Apparently her character can also fight.

+ Meanwhile, I keep hearing all sorts of things about the Wonder Woman show and find myself getting excited despite myself. I mean, look at the cast: Liz Hurley as Veronica Cale! TRACIE THOMS AS ETTA CANDY! That Lawyer Guy from The Good Wife as Ed Indelicato! Cary Elwes as Henry Demeter! And here is Adrianne Palicki towering over everyone, which is heartening!

a. VERONICA CALE as a villain. WHICH MEANS THEY HAVE READ RUCKA.

b. TRACIE THOMS! AS ETTA! Now, the fanboys are already complaining about Etta 'not looking like herself' (because Etta has looked like this in her various avatars), but really, SHUT UP, it's Tracie Thoms! It's hilarious how no one bats an eyelash when Tom Hardy is cast as Bane, but heaven forbid they cast a black actor as Etta Candy.

I'm more worried that she'll be typecast as the sassy best friend, but apparently in this version Diana is closer to Myndi Meyer than she is to Etta?! Whatever, we'll see if the pilot is actually picked up.

c. Apparently there will be flashbacks involving Artemis. ARTEMIS, OMG. (Dare we hope for Hippolyta and Phillipus as well?)

d. Diana will have a neighbour called William Marston, hee.

e. The costume will 'resemble' the 'iconic costume', whatever that might mean given the current status of Diana's book (not to mention the brand new Solemn Rooster Armour for Flashpoint, replacing the old Screaming Chicken Armour):

I confess I will not miss the star-spangled panties AT ALL.

None of this takes away from the fact that the leaked pilot script was somewhat cringeworthy, and that looking at the tertiary cast one gets the feeling that DEK just really wanted to make a show called Lawyers! With Superpowers! and called his protagonist Wonder Woman instead. But then, I have very little expectations of this thing to begin with, so who knows? It could end up being entertaining.

+ I have been watching The Good Wife. It's really great, I should've tried it sooner. To my pleasant surprise, I like almost everybody (even Cary, except when he's being mean to Alicia) and all the ships, from Will/Alicia to Diane/the Marlboro Man to Kalinda/Hot FBI Lady, and the many non-canon ships like Will/Diane (THE OBVIOUS. TOGETHER THEY CAN RULE THE WORLD!) and Alicia/Kalinda (again, obvious).
