Is Merlin good? I'm looking for a new show to watch.
I, well. This is a difficult question, you know. It's, well, kind of Arthurian legends meets Harry Potter with ridiculously bad CGI and loads and loads of cheese and scant regard for historical accuracy and canon and such. It's also CRACKTASTIC and GAY, what with the ETERNAL DESTINY between the two male leads and the BFF-Y LOVE between the two female leads. Then there are the characters, who are just... You know, like if someone decided do a cracktastic version of the Arthurian legends with a cast of kittens and a beautiful big cat in the shape of Tony Head? The show's sort of like that. Like a cracktastic high school AU that never should've been written but has been anyway and you kinda love it and want to draw hearts around it. And if you get past the cheese of the first three or four episodes, it actually gets to be good and with surprisingly dark undercurrents for a children's show.
If you give me a couple of days, I'll get to that squee post I've been meaning to write and maybe it'll make more sense?
Did the show end well? I mean with a good series finale instead of a cliffhanger or the show going to hell in the final seasons. I'm thinking about rent it or download it.
The first two seasons were incredibly good. The third season was tolderable. I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the next one an a half seasons.
Give it a try. Who knows, you might become really fond of it. And Series 2 is coming soon, so... (OMG CANNOT WAIT)
That bad? Well there are at least 3 seasons to watch ;)
Oh yes. I could rant about it for hours now, but I will spare you the incoherence. Season three is a letdown after the S2 finale, but it is, at least, watchable on most occasions. The first two seasons, though. All kinds of fabulous. Hot leads with crackling chemistry and Love That Cannot Be. Awesome Morally Ambiguous Supporting Characters. One of the principal complaints about the latter seasons is that the show loses its moral ambiguity and reduces the fabulous antagonist-type characters to outright villains, and shifts the focus from Nikita's journey to the star-crossed LOVE of Michael and Nikita. There is also other general fail. Argh.
