hihoplastic allowed me to steal borrow a seminal thing from her fabulous House/Angel x-over, Never Heals. And then she read through this thing and encouraged me, for which I can't thank her ( Read more... )

This was very different from any House story I have ever read but it was just beautiful. The imagery and the word choice were lovely and the premise for the story was very intriguing! I love any fic that is well written so this is definitely one of my favorites.

I love the idea of Wilson and Cuddy having "superpowers", coming to cope with the repercussions of having them and living in a world that may end at any time.

I also really enjoyed how in character everyone was (especially House with his cynicism and curiosity) and the pieces of canon you explored (Cuddy forging the paperwork to keep House out of jail, the fallout of Amber's death, etc.).

Wonderful story!

P.S.--In the paragraph before the prologue, you have a sentence that reads "This was she did", but I think it's supposed to be "This was what she did". I don't want to be a nit-picker, but I thought you may want to know.

ooo. very intriguing take on the prompt. it's like an x-men crossover apoca!fic. mutants! i like the way you offer little glimpses into the what but not the how or why. are the canon references meant to be memories or parallel universe or... something else?

(it makes me perversely happy that cuddy and wilson have superpowers and house doesn't. ha!)

omg! tree is clearly an altered person 'cause she read my mind and stole my review! this story is great! i was totally thinking it had an x-files vibe to it as well. it also has the same quiet energy in hihoplastic's apocalyptic fic 'your hand in mind'. i'm def. going to check out the fic that inspired this one. great story!

p.s. i think it's hilarious that you are a year late for last year's cuddyfest and a day late for this one :]

I'm a sucker for apocafic. hihoplastic's is, of course, an obvious influence - I actually had to be very careful (once I realised that was going to be post-apocalypse) about not treading on identical territory!

Thank you for your kind words. *g*

Oh dear. I wish I could be a little coherent about this (one of the reasons why I did not post this story even after finish it a couple of months ago), but in my head the prompt translated into 'storytelling'->'stories we tell ourselves about us', and that's what the AU universe is, to me. Cuddy is a very reserved character on most occasions, and I wanted the storytelling to be an exploration of everything: her strengths, her fears. I wanted the AU scenes to parallel canon, be a reflection on them, even though I'm unsure how much it actually works outside my head. Her real life would make a boring story, but even a universe where she has superpowers is not without its pitfalls. Does that even make sense?

Thank you for reading. *g*

Beautiful writing and I love the way you write Cuddy.

The park was quiet, mostly deserted, its paths littered with yellowed leaves now that cleaning them was no longer imperative. A couple sat holding hands underneath a maple tree, surrounded by fallen leaves and overgrown grass.

She settled herself on a dusty bench, staring off into the distance. The reservoir was a calm blue, not a ripple on its surface.

The sun still shone. People fell in love and held hands.

I don't know why but I love this scene very much. ♥
