It came completely out of nowhere. I literally haven't written a fanfic in 12 years. And of all the crazy things I could be writing about, I pick Brave.
Basically, my brother finally went to see it a few weeks ago, and I went with him. After we left, and were discussing our impressions, I said that if I'd been making the movie (and this being me, and cursed princes basically being my crack) instead of just showing you his ghost, I would have had Mor'du turn back into the prince. Then we both kind of randomly came up with the idea of the prince and Merida ending up together, and how amazingly hilarious King Fergus getting Mor'du as a son-in-law would be. (The guy wrote a song and dance about killing him. How crazy epic/awkward/awesome would this end up?)
Anyway, I thought it was a pretty hilarious, adorable idea, and the more I thought about Merida and the prince as a pairing, the more I thought it might actually work. They show him at the end and he seems less a total-douche than initially implied, not to mention pretty rockin' looking. If the prince were able to appreciate her strength and independence, they could bond through riding, exploring, fighting etc. and their shared magical experiences. And then, because I really suck at sticking to a light-hearted tone, and Brave had kind a serious feel to it anyway, the idea shifted into a darker light, and I started to wonder about the prince, and how in the world you could go on with your life after having turned into a giant-ass demon bear and basically slaughtering your whole kingom. And then I was lost, and this became a thing.
IDK how this happened, but I'm going to enjoy it.
