I woke up this morning in a small panic. The dream I had last night was frightening. Here's a direct copy of what I wrote in class of what I remembered of it:
I drempt that I was IMing my friend Ian one night, as usual typing and listening to some music. We were having a fairly good conversation when he says something about going to do something. The dream morphs to me standing in the same room his computer is in. It was the top floor in a building with many steep stairs. I wondered where he was, since he wasn't in this room. I was with my dad, looking around. It was dark as I tiptoed around the stairs looking for Ian. My dad turned on the lights and I realized that what I'd walked past was his lifeless body. My dad told me that he was dead. I walked by the body, up the stairs. Apparently, he had been trying to carry down a big TV down the stairs, but fell and hit his head. The dream shapeshifts me back home (which doesn't look like home), where I am stunned and feel the blow of his death. I had some song playing, leftover from before. It was "Imagine", I think. My mom came in the room and I told her what had happened. She asked to read the IM, but I didn't want to show her. I gave in eventually, though. The scene swirled into me sitting in my dad's Jaguar with the roof down. My dad and brother and some other guys are playing soccer in the field next to it. I kept telling them not to hit the car.
And I lay in my bed trying to convince myself that it was just a dream, because it felt so real that he had died.
Here's some possible meanings, thanks to online dream dictionaries:
"To see spiral or winding stairs, signify growth and/or rebirth."
"To see a staircase in your dream, symbolizes change and transformation. "
"To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. Alternatively, it indicates that whatever that person represents has no part in your own life. "
Hmm... quite possible.
Have you ever tried to analyze one of your dreams?
Other than that, I have class in a bit and I still need to eat lunch.
