Wow, what a weekend. I went to see my friend Chris, a reconstructive plastic surgeon, after work on Friday. I was utterly exhausted, but Jo (Chris's wife) made me a cheese quesadilla and they both plied me with beer until I felt good enough to rest on the couch for a bit. Then their Burning Man campmates came over with their bikes and we all headed over to the neighbor's house for a work party. I was still tired, and didn't want to get in the way, but I wanted to help and homemade pizza was being offered as a tantalizing treat later on. So I strung some puffy balls on string, talked with people, drank some more, snacked, and so on until pizza was ready. Then I ate and was so tired afterward that I finally HAD to excuse myself. (Not before I took a spin on Dr. Chris's bicycle of death, though...)

Came home and crashed. Went to lunch with Jesse and Teri on Saturday and gave them the news of my new teaching job. Told them that, because of the short notice, I would need to spend the weekend preparing for said teaching job. Immediately made plans to drive out to the desert later that evening to watch some suspensions that Steve Haworth was planning.

Of *course* we were only going to stay for a couple of hours, right? Right. But of course we also managed to drive off without really thinking about all the stuff we needed to bring, so we made a pit stop at Wal Mart and bought lounge chairs and a cooler, hot dogs and buns, alcohol and snacks. Then hit the road for about an hour, heading north on I-17. Turned off on Bloody Basin Road and took some crazy primitive rock roads for a few miles, and finally reached the appointed area.

Steve and his girlfriend Cookie were there, along with a few other folks, but more people kept showing up as we pulled our stuff out of the car and ...aww crap. More later. Gotta run.
