Gender meme, which I stole from
spacehawk:
In your journal, provide answers to these two items:
1) Three ways that you are stereotypically a girl, and
2) Three ways that you are stereotypically a boy
Let's see. Because I like overkill, I think I will go beyond "three" ways and just hit it willy-nilly.
I'm stereotypically feminine:
- I love to be the one baking and cooking, but not so much the one eating.
- I decorate everything. That includes myself. I put little ornaments in my hair and I have streamers and beads on my bike and I have a house that's cluttered up with cute stuff.
- I have been guilty of enjoying clothes shopping. (Not often, but I have to be honest and say I have walked up to a rack and said "This is cuuuuute!" before.)
- Connecting with/understanding other people emotionally, and behaving sensitively/appropriately in response to it, is one of my talents/abilities.
- I cry without being embarrassed about it, even if it's over something "silly."
- I love pink. ::eyeroll::
- I keep a journal.
- I like to engage in and watch performing arts.
- I have long hair.
- I have no sense of direction and get lost easily.
- I actually like girly swimwear and willingly wear a bikini.
- I'm better at verbal arts than at spatial arts.
- I prefer character-oriented drama to action/adventure.
- When I think of my favorite actors, I appreciate and notice men in movies more than I do women.
- I looooooove babies. (This gets me in trouble with people who don't understand. They think I'm longing to have one.)
- At work, I function in a support position (administrative assistant) and my job is helping the men.
- I'm a pacifist.
- I collect a number of "girly" things. Essential oils, Yankee candles, and books about fairies.
- I've never been in a fight.
- I like a lot of girl-rock and folk music.
I'm stereotypically masculine:
- I prefer wearing men's shoes.
- I'm not interested in spending lots of time on hair and makeup. I don't have a long grooming routine, tons of product bottles, or a special cleansing regimen.
- I have short fingernails and have never had a manicure or pedicure.
- I use a lot of bad language and am not offended by even some of the really awful curse words. (Though I should say that I specifically mean it's not the WORDS that offend me. How they're used is a different story.)
- I'm very independent.
- I like science fiction and fantasy as opposed to romance.
- Compared to my friends (especially my female friends), I know a lot about computers.
- I read comics.
- My favorite anime is about football. (I also used to be the only girl in the anime club I went to.)
- My favorite video games tend to be fighting games. I have also physically punched someone for beating me in a video game. (He deserved it, though. What an asshole.) Dance Dance Revolution is an exception, though a lot of the best players also tend to be guys.
- I have no qualms about sharing my age or physical details with people, and don't really understand why girls are supposed to be bashful about this stuff while guys aren't. I'll be 34 next month. I'm 4'11". This morning when I weighed myself I was 102 pounds. (Which would explain why some of my pants don't fit well right now. I'm normally about 5 pounds less than that. Probably will return to double-digits after I stop eating everything in sight, as I have been doing since September. Long story.)
- I have decent physical and hand/eye coordination and I'm strong for my size. I play a pretty competitive game of tennis or ping-pong.
- I like a lot of metal and hard rock music.
- I'm into science and have been since I was a kid. In high school I was in the science club.
- I never go to any professional "beauty" or "health" places to get haircuts, skin treatments, makeup/nail/facial stuff, or massages. I've had my hair done professionally for a wedding, and that's about it. I dislike the idea and concept of "wanting to be pampered."
- I hate perfume.
- I don't follow "fashion," and while I have clothes I like, it has nothing to do with trends. I'm hopeless when it comes to understanding what supposedly matches and don't know names of styles or designers, and tend not to know what sizes I should look for.
- My element is Air, which is male-aligned.
- I like "gross" humor. And I think burps are funny.
- I can be extremely confident and critical.
