Double rainbow

I've been a big fan of the Gregory Brothers lately, but that's another story. It is, however, related to how I found this:

Anyway, the Gregory Brothers, among others, made cool parody videos of this guy's video about the double rainbow he encountered in his front yard. I like the songs (and downloaded two of them!), but what I want to say about it is that I actually really relate to this guy.

The video basically has this middle-aged dude, Bear Vasquez, being a gigantic weepy hippie and crying in awe over experiencing this beautiful sight of a double rainbow in his yard. It's kinda hilarious in a way because, yes, he's pretty over the top, and many people have suggested he must be TOTALLY wasted because of the tone and word choice he used in the video. (Lots of "wow, inteeeeense!" and "what does it MEAN???" and "OH MY GOD IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!")

But the thing is, I often feel like that over beautiful things. Not just surprising natural sights, but manifestations of beauty that pop up all the time, everywhere. Could be a situation, or a beautiful song, or an act of kindness, or a touching picture of a baby, or a dream I had. I do frequently have "extreme" reactions to things. And while I don't videotape them so other people can watch and possibly make fun of me, I'm not shy or embarrassed about the fact that I fall in love a lot.

I'm pleased to say that even though people are making fun of Bear a lot for the way he expressed himself, there are also plenty of people who related to him and understood where he was coming from, and he doesn't seem embarrassed or ashamed of his reaction at all. In fact, when interviewed about it he describes the experience with similar awe, and talks about his life in general as if he leads a blessed existence. He seems like a pretty awesome fella--in touch with himself and unashamed about who he is.

I respect that.

And I like rainbows.
