I kinda like reflecting on what I did during the week while I'm doing laundry. As I'm sorting through the clothes, I always remember why I was wearing whatever I'm putting in the washing machine. "Oh yeah, there's the overalls and tank top I wore to brave the heat while biking to Mom's." "Oh, there's the pants I wore while trying to look swanky at work." "Oh look, the skirt I was wearing while making my 'Mad World' music video."
Speaking of videos, my newest one is up as of a couple days ago:
SwankiVY's Bloopers. It is, as it sounds, a blooper reel, featuring silly and dumb things that happened in my amateur movie-making experience.
Some of you may remember that I am hoping to be a representative for a new collaborative YouTube channel that has various video-blogging asexuals weighing in on a variety of topics. The decision about the representatives still hasn't been made because the gal who started the project is missing in action. :P Anyway, at the time I auditioned I was the oldest to try out.
Since then, a forty-year-old asexual named BlueCerinthe (on YouTube) auditioned, and later she was dismayed to see that she was the only one of the four "older asexuals" who was doing really well in the voting. (In our group of 20, there were two 32-year-olds and one 28-year-old. Sadly 28 counts for "older" in this community.) The reason she was dismayed about it was that she is also disabled (legally blind due to albinism, and mildly autistic), and she was worried that if she ended up the sole representative for the "older" asexual population, people would get the wrong idea that asexuality isn't something that mature people experience unless they have contributing factors like disabilities. (Younger people are often thought to be "going through a phase" and people tell them they'll "grow out of it," so older asexuals on the project are very much desired!)
Anyway, BlueCerinthe made a plea in the Older Asexuals forum on AVEN (the Asexual Visibility and Education Network), asking for people to please consider voting for the three other older asexuals. So, that was cool that she plugged for me.
But anyway, I had a dream about it.
The night she made that post in AVEN, I dreamed that a long thread of responses filtered in basically shooting down her idea and personally criticizing all of us. I dreamed that a bunch of the AVEN members thought the whole collab channel project is already a wash because we're all a bunch of geeks. And it's actually kinda true; in our introductory audition videos we were supposed to talk a little about ourselves, and almost everyone rattled off nerdy interests or admitted proudly to being a geek.
So in my dream the detractors were hammering away saying that it doesn't matter whether the older asexuals get in because no matter what people are going to watch the channel and think we're all maladjusted and a bunch of social deviants and therefore no one's going to care what we say and we aren't going to look legitimate. They picked on BlueCerinthe for being an albino and made fun of how she looks, picked on a younger asexual named beyondweird13 because she has outrageously blue hair and shocking makeup, and they pointed out (while not naming names, but talking about me) that there is even a pathetic-looking trollop who is apparently so addicted to LARPing that she won't take her latex elf ears off for a minute to make a video. -_-;
Why would I dream about that? I must have been really insecure about our public image or something. (That or I'm just used to people being jerks, even though I don't think I'm going to run into that on AVEN.)
(No, I've never done LARPing. I don't play any role-playing games, never even once.)
