Rita cannot stop me from doing what is right. Neither can the flooding, sunken ships, fire, or emergency room visits that I had the pleasure of participating in this past weekend. Fuck you Rita, and your bitch sister Katrina, too.
On to the agenda:
There are several boxes of donations in my possession that I can finally sort and inventory. By several, I mean 18 boxes of clothes, linens, complete children's bedding sets, shoes, food, water, personal hygeine products, pet supplies, towels, baby supplies, etc. I spoke briefly with Mike from Hi-Ho today and I'm hoping that once things are cleaned up and we are all settled back into the city somewhat, we can use the Hi-Ho and/or the Dragon's Den as store fronts for these relief centers. I am still working by word of mouth, and referrals only... whether these come from friends and family, church groups, schools, or whoever, I don't much care. As long as everyone we help has a genuince need for these things. The Blunder Twins Katrina Relief Effort was meant to help those who need it most, those who lost everything, not those who feel like they could use a new pair of shoes or a new skirt.
With the help of Steve Weatherby, and Warner Music Group, my small-time effort has expanded greatly. They have joined forces with Habitat for Humanity and are building 5 houses in 5 days to send to the Gulf Coast. There are also 50 more boxes of donations on the way to help stock our own relief centers. I want to personally extend my appreciation and thanks to Steve Weatherby and Warner Music Group for their hard work and generosity. I will be posting a list of all the other bands, companies, and individuals that contributed to this cause as soon as I receive them.
Again, even before we set up shop, if you or anyone you know has specific immediate needs for any of these types of items, please email me at tvanacor@yahoo.com or call me at 985-306-0262. I can also be reached on AIM under swamppixie and Yahoo IM under swampixie. I do ask for names, contact info, size information, specific needs, and address before disaster for obvious reasons. I can also help with FEMA applications, as well as many other resources that many be unknown. Please don't be proud or shy. We are all in the same situation, some are worse off than others, and I intend to help as much as I can. Not for me... but for you!
***If you are in the Des Allemands, LA area and can volunteer your time to sorting donations, please contact me as well.. Thanks, Talicia***
