Nothing’s Impossible (part 2)

Part One

A week later, Jongdae is walking home from school when he passes by a small store. At first, he merely glances over the store, as he does every day, but he suddenly freezes when he sees someone who looks extremely familiar…

In five seconds, Jongdae has run over to the person and blocked his path. “Hey!” he says excitedly, waving frantically. “We met once! At one of your concerts! I asked you to marry me!”

“Oh.” Yixing looks up at him nervously, looking surprised and slightly reluctant (Jongdae wonders why). “Um. That’s nice. So you’re one of my fans?”

I’m your future boyfriend is what Jongdae would like to respond with, but he restrains himself (Minseok had warned him about being too assertive towards others) and nods instead. “Yeah. I’m a really big fan of you. Like, really. I love your dancing and it’s amazing and ohmaigosh I cannot believe I’m talking to you right now why are you here anyways I thought you went out of town after the concert but whatever ohmaigosh I really cannot believe this is happening-”

Yixing stares at him blankly, slowly backing away as Jongdae pauses to take a breath and beams at the dancer. “Um. You live around here?”

Jongdae nods vigorously, still beaming and completely unaware of the slightly freaked-out expression Yixing gives him. “I’ve lived here all my life.”

Yixing looks like he’s going through a great mental conflict, but he finally asks, “Well, to be honest, I’m actually a bit lost right now. Could you help me find the Seoul Hotel?”

“Of course!” Jongdae says enthusiastically, hardly believing what is happening. Zhang Yixing just asked him to help him find his way. Which means that Jongdae gets to talk with Yixing for some more time. This cannot be happening. It’s too unreal.

They walk off in the direction of the hotel, Jongdae going as slowly as he possibly can (in order to gain more time to talk with Yixing), Yixing looking around and keeping a considerable distance away from Jongdae. Jongdae decides that it’s just because the dancer is interested in the sights of the town, and ignores the fact that Yixing flinches every once in a while whenever Jongdae gets too close.

Well, if Yixing is interested in the sights of the town, then Jongdae might as well introduce them to the dancer. “That’s the concert hall you performed at a week ago, and that’s the shop where I went to buy wasabi peas afterwards. That’s a really famous building over there, but no one knows what it’s really. It’s just famous-”

“Um, thanks, but I’ve already seen them-”

“And that’s where my favorite band, Super Junior, once performed. I went and watched the concert, although I didn’t like it as much as yours, you know. I was also a bit annoyed, because one of the songs was called ‘From U,’ and it was dedicated to fangirls. I mean, seriously. Why can’t they think of fanboys too?” Jongdae’s rambling, and he knows it, but he can’t stop, because he’s just so nervous with Yixing walking so close to him (two feet away counts as close). “I think my all time favorite song of theirs, however, is ‘Sorry Sorry Answer.’ It’s the one that goes michidorok neol wonhago isseo yeah.” He sings out the lyrics, feeling a lot more comfortable singing than speaking. Singing is what Jongdae likes to do as a hobby, and sometimes, when he rambles too much, singing helps calm him down a bit.

Yixing freezes in his tracks the moment Jongdae begins singing, then turns to Jongdae, his eyes wide in surprise. “Sing that again. Please.”

“Um, okay.” Jongdae sings the line again, and Yixing closes his eyes, tapping his foot softly to the rhythm. They’ve walked to a park, and no one is around as far as Jongdae can see.

When Jongdae finishes, Yixing opens his eyes slowly, and there’s an expression of awe in them as he looks at Jongdae again. “Could you sing some more of the song?”

Jongdae begins singing again, and this time, Yixing begins to dance. Jongdae almost forgets to breathe and sing the next line, captivated by the way Yixing manages to make everything look so effortless as he dances on the grass in the park. Finally, he trails off, unable to sing anymore, too entranced by Yixing’s dancing.

Yixing stops once Jongdae stops singing, and he stand there, breathing slightly more quickly than before, running a hand through his hair. He catches Jongdae’s eyes and smiles sheepishly. “Sorry. I couldn’t resist. You have a very nice voice.”

Yixing just complimented him. Jongdae isn’t sure whether he should fall over because of the compliment, or if Yixing just danced in front of him because of his singing. Either way, he sort of falls over and lands up staring up at Yixing while sprawled over on the grass. “Ohmaigosh.”

“Are you okay?” Yixing asks him concernedly, reaching forward and grabbing Jongdae’s hand to help him stand up. Jongdae swears he feels sparks when Yixing’s hand touches his, and it’s a very pleasant feeling, to be honest.

“I’m fine,” he mutters, feeling his cheeks flame as he dusts off his jeans and tries to hide a grin. “Um. I really enjoyed your dancing.”

Yixing smiles slightly, and for the rest of the walk, Jongdae notices that the dancer walks side by side with him, close enough that their hands brush every once in a while, causing Jongdae to jerk his hand back in confusion and an overwhelming need to run off and spazz to his heart’s content.

They finally reach the hotel and Jongdae lingers back, unwilling to let Yixing go. This is his last chance to say something to the dancer-Yixing will go into the hotel, and they’ll never see each other again. The entire afternoon has been full of events that Jongdae has never thought would actually happen (even though he’s dreamed of talking with Yixing plenty of times), and Jongdae has to thank Yixing for at least paying attention to him.

It’s simple. He’ll just tell Yixing his appreciation, run off crying, and sob in his room for hours about how Yixing will never be his boyfriend, and that he’s going to die single. “So-” he begins, then realizes that Yixing has spoken at the same time. “You first.”

“Um,” Yixing says nervously (wait-nervously?), “thanks for everything. I’m sorry if I was a bit cold to you at the beginning. I was kind of frantic about not being able to find the hotel. And, um, you were rather enthusiastic. But you really do have a nice voice. And the way you act, it’s kind of…um…cute.”

Jongdae gapes at him. Yixing has just complimented him and called him cute in the last five seconds. And apologized. “I…”

“And, uh, I’m actually going to be here for a month or so, resting for my tour,” Yixing says hesitantly. “So, I was wondering if you want to be a sort of unofficial guide for me and show me around the place, because I don’t really have anything else to do-”

All thoughts of never seeing Yixing again pop out of existence in Jongdae’s mind as he almost runs Yixing over with his excitement. “Really? Do you really mean it? Really? Ohmaigosh-” At this point, in remembers that he shouldn’t be so enthusiastic, so he clears his throat and forces himself to stand still. “I mean, yes. I would love to.”

Yixing watches him with a hint of amusement in his expression. “All right then. Um, I’ll see you tomorrow then? At the front of the hotel? At around seven in the morning?”

Jongdae doesn’t really remember agreeing and walking home. All he knows is that the moment he enters his room, he runs over to his bed and collapses on it, squealing as loudly as he can, not caring if his mother hears and scolds him. He almost texts Minseok, then realizes that the older boy will probably say that he’s imagining things again.

Whatever. Jongdae turns off his phone and spends the next half hour flailing around and screaming “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” at the top of his lungs.

The first day, Jongdae takes Yixing on a basic tour of the main attractions of the town-major shops, major parks, major buildings, major places of attraction for tourists (like the statue of the buffalo in one of the town squares that Jongdae’s friend Yifan is strangely enamored with for some reason).

Throughout the day, despite the fact that Jongdae talks incessantly the entire time, Yixing seems quite happy and perhaps even enjoying Jongdae’s company. Jongdae goes home mumbling gibberish and flapping his arms around every once in a while, much to the bemusement of his mother.

“What’s wrong with you?” she asks when he passes her in the doorway. “Are you feeling all right?”

“You told me once that people in love do strange things,” is Jongdae’s only response as he stops to stare, wide-eyed, in to the distance, thinking of Yixing’s smile and his gorgeous eyes. His mother scoffs and mutters something about Jongdae being crazy, then walks away, leaving Jongdae giggling about Yixing.

Okay, so maybe he is crazy. Jongdae feels so giddy at the moment that mumbling gibberish and flapping his arms don’t really seem like extremely strange actions.

Day two, Jongdae brings Yixing to a really good restaurant and they spend the day walking in a park, talking about Jongdae’s life. At first Jongdae is so surprised that he can hardly utter a word for once-after all, why would someone like Yixing want to know about insignificant Jongdae’s life-but he quickly warms up to the subject, and at the end, Yixing even talks a little about his own life as a dancer.

Day three, Jongdae gets the feeling that they’ve given up on the entire Jongdae-showing-Yixing-around-the-town thing, because Yixing isn’t even interested in looking around the place and spends the entire day talking with Jongdae instead. By this time, Jongdae is hopelessly falling more and more in love with Yixing (if possible), because Yixing in person is actually extremely kind and perfect and amazing and intelligent and so freaking godly and attractive.

He wonders briefly every once in a while why Yixing even bothers to speak to him, to be with him, and comes with nothing for a solution except for the observation that Yixing looks nervous every time he talks to Jongdae. Not that it’s much of an explanation, because Yixing looking nervous doesn’t connect with why he talks with Jongdae. At all.

End of week one. Yixing and Jongdae talk for the entire day, as they have almost the entire week, and when Yixing finally has to go back to the hotel, Jongdae follows him for a while, unwilling to let Yixing go. When they reach the entrance of the hotel, Yixing turns to Jongdae and takes a deep breath. “Thanks for everything this week.”

“You’re welcome,” Jongdae replies, not sure where the conversation is going. “You don’t have to thank me. I’d do anything for you.” He makes the last statement sincerely-after all, he will do anything for Yixing, because he’s absolutely in love with Yixing (although he doesn’t say that, because Jongdae has learned that too many declarations of love tend to make people run away from him).

“So you’re still my fan?”

“Still? I’ll always be your fan. What are you talking about?”

Yixing looks down at his shoes and clears his throat slightly (Jongdae nearly falls over, because the action is so adorable). “Um. I kind of sort of like you?”

“What.” Jongdae blinks a few times. “Sorry. Did I hear you correctly?”

“Yeah.” Yixing doesn’t look up. “I like you. I think you’re kind of cute. And nice.”

Ohmaigosh. What. “Well, it’s good that I’m in love with you,” Jongdae finally manages, not sure what else to say, and if he’s having a dream or not. “Is this actually happening?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh. Okay.”

“Yeah.”

Silence, then “So now what do we do?”

“I don’t know,” Yixing says, with a hint of nervousness in his voice. “Maybe we could get together for a bit? I’m only staying here for a few more weeks or so but I’d like to maybe start a relationship?” He ends his statement with a questioning tone, finally looking up and staring curiously at Jongdae.

Jongdae swallows, not sure if he has heard Yixing correctly, and still not over the fact that Yixing has just told him that Yixing likes him. “You mean. Start. A Relationship. Like. Boyfriend. Official. That sort?”

Wow, Yixing is really cute when he nods and smiles shyly. Jongdae can hardly speak due to his incoherence and mental state of great emotional disorder. “Y-Yes. Of course. I mean. Yes.”

Yixing grins in relief and puts his arm around Jongdae’s shoulders. Jongdae thinks he’s going to die of happiness.

They have their first date in a small restaurant that Yixing picks out. Jongdae has never gone there before-it’s expensive, and he has other, good restaurants to eat out-but Yixing promises to pay the bill, so Jongdae goes, because after all, it’s what Yixing chooses (and because free food is always an offer no one should ever reject. Except in some dangerous situations. But those tend to be rare. Hopefully).

Jongdae has a panic attack half an hour before the date-he doesn’t know what to wear. Worse, he isn’t even sure if the date is real. What if he imagined that Yixing asked him out? Finally, he forces himself to dress casually (no need to go all formal and embarrass himself if Yixing doesn’t come because Jongdae has imagined everything) and sets off for the restaurant, nervous out of his wits.

To his relief, Yixing is actually there, surprisingly looking even more nervous than Jongdae feels. “Hi,” he says, when Jongdae sits down across from him at the table, and there’s a tremble in his voice as he stares down at the menu. “Um. I’m glad you could make it.”

Jongdae stares at Yixing, and a thought makes its way in his mind. “Yixing…is this your first date ever?”

“Um.” Yixing flushes and nods reluctantly. “Yeah.”

Jongdae feels his eyes widen in surprise, but he quickly looks down at his menu. “Well, it’s mine too. And I’m extremely surprised to find myself here because you’re a famous dancer and I’m just a weird, stalking fanboy according to my friend Minseok. So I don’t even know why you’re dating me, and if this is all a dream, and really, I don’t know what to say. So. Um. We’re both quite nervous, I guess. So. This is quite awkward.”

Yixing stares at Jongdae for a long moment, his expression emotionless as he scrutinizes Jongdae. “You really do talk a lot. I wasn’t going to mention it before, but you talk a lot when you’re nervous.”

“Um. Well. Yeah,” Jongdae replies, embarrassed and suddenly freaked out-what if Yixing doesn’t like him because he talks too much?

“So I’ll have to come up with a way to shut you up, I suppose,” Yixing says nonchalantly, pushing his menu aside and tilting Jongdae’s chin up with his hand. “Does this work?”

“What-” Jongdae begins before Yixing’s lips capture his, and he loses his ability to speak or think (or function, actually) for the next few seconds or so.

A soft cough causes Yixing to pull away, and Jongdae looks up, flushing, to see a waitress staring at them, eyebrows raised. “Oh, sorry,” Yixing says cheerfully, sitting down and handing the waitress the menus and giving her their orders.

Jongdae stares at Yixing for a few minutes after the waitress leaves, while Yixing hums under his breath and looks down at the table.

“I think we’re going to have a good relationship,” Yixing finally announces. “Okay?”

“Okay,” Jongdae says automatically, still floating in dreamland because of the kiss. When their food arrives, Jongdae accidently brushes his leg against Yixing’s, but Yixing merely grins cheekily, all signs of nervousness gone, and wraps his leg around Jongdae’s when Jongdae apologizes and attempts to move away.

Jongdae can’t help but fall even more in love.

Jongdae’s friends finally admit that Yixing exists when they catch the two of them passionately making out in an empty corner of the school. Jongdae just laughs whenever they make disgusted noises when they think about it (which happens a lot more than once, because his friends have now connected Yixing with that scene in the said corner), and ignores them. It’s their fault that they didn’t believe in Yixing the first place.

A few weeks pass by, and Yixing has to leave for another tour. Much to Jongdae’s dismay, he realizes that he has to stay in school, and that there is no way his parents will allow him to traverse the country with his boyfriend.

They spend their last day together cuddling on a bench in a park, each wrapped up in his own thoughts. Finally, Jongdae whispers fearfully, “You won’t forget me, right?”

Yixing coughs, although it’s a bit obvious that he’s hiding laughter. “You’re so silly. Why would I forget you?”

“Promise?”

Yixing turns around and stares directly into Jongdae’s eyes, and Jongdae shivers, because he still hasn’t gotten over how beautiful and striking Yixing’s eyes are. “I will never forget you, Jongdae. Relax. I’ll only be gone for a while. Then I’ll come back, and maybe you can convince your parents to let you come with me, and we can go around on my tours. Or, I’ll get you a job singing for my concerts and your parents will let you come along with me.”

“Okay,” Jongdae mumbles, for once lost for words as he tries not to drown in Yixing’s perfection. “I’ll be waiting.”

More laughter disguised as a cough. Jongdae looks up in mock indignation only to be kissed by Yixing, slowly and softly at first, then more desperately as they realize that the kiss might be their last one for a long while.

When they finally break away, gasping for breath, Jongdae almost laughs fondly at Yixing’s dreamy expression, because it reminds himself of what he was like before he actually met Yixing. And, Jongdae realizes, as Yixing pulls him back into another kiss, it doesn’t matter that Yixing is going away for a while, because he’ll come back, and they’ll always think of each other.

At this moment, life is perfect.
