On the bridge, the scene is--for a few seconds and a few seconds only--pandemonium. Men scream, they run toward the bow, and they and the ship s t r e t c h in a way that flesh and bone and transparisteel and metal are not meant to stretch --
The Interdictor wobbles, a wave rippling through it as if it were paper -- and then the cruiser disappears into the sucking black hole in the asteroid.
The stars and the planet sit calmly, as though nothing had ever happened.
