The Phantom Affair

When the bombers come screaming into Mrlsst's atmosphere, accompanied by the eerie, all-too-familiar ear-splitting howl, the Rogues know what to do.

They race to the spaceport in the speeder and scramble, dodging falling bombs and explosions and panicked citizens along the way. The only thing to do once there is to leap into their fighters and get off the ground as fast as possible. No pre-flight checks here, no sounding off; they need to get into the air before the bombers target the spaceport, as the X-wings are undoubtedly high on the Imperials' list of targets.

Elscol--woozy, but insisting on flying--cuts it closest. She's the last to make it off the ground, and a bomber drops its load of explosives just outside the spaceport gates. By then, though, there are three other Rogues flashing through the air, and they're making mincemeat out of the slow, lumbering bombers, along with their TIE escorts.

These Imp pilots simply aren't any good.

And once a squadron leader or two has been vaped, the survivors prove that not only are they not any good, but they're cowards.
