Chapter 33 - Epilogue
The victory party was the best one Atlantis had ever had.
They decorated the mess hall, and someone rigged up a sound system, and Zelenka even figured out how to make a sort of disco ball. There was loads of good food, and everyone relaxed and celebrated the fact that they'd managed to save the unicorns from the Genii.
John looked gorgeous in his green silk shirt that set off his beautiful hazel eyes, and his tight black leather pants that showed off his fantastic ass. Rodney could barely take his eyes off him.
"I'm so happy he's back," Elizabeth said, nodding in John's direction as she sat down next to Rodney where he was alone at a table, eating chocolate and drinking coffee.
"Yeah. Me, too," Rodney said.
"Are you?" Elizabeth asked, watching him carefully. Rodney knew what she was thinking.
"Yes. I am," he said, and it was true. John had explained that he'd only pretended to be a traitor so he could save the unicorns, and that was why he'd beaten and raped Rodney while Rodney was a woman, to prove he was evil.
Elizabeth looked like she didn't really believe him, but before she could say anything more, Teyla and Ronon walked up to the table, holding hands. Ronon was wearing a black turtleneck and neatly pressed black slacks. His penny loafers were shined to a high gloss.
"Rodney, how are you feeling?" Teyla asked as Ronon gazed at her lovingly.
"Pretty good," Rodney responded.
"Looks like it hasn't effected your appetite at least," Ronon snarked.
Just then Caldwell came over and took Elizabeth out to the dance floor, and Ronon and Teyla followed, dancing slowly and closely. Rodney couldn't help but look around for John, who was near the buffet table, talking to Carson and a soldier Rodney recognized but couldn't name.
He sighed.
John had said he would never, ever hit Rodney again, and Rodney believed him because he loved him so much, because John was his best friend, but he couldn't help but wonder if things would ever be the same between them again. John seemed so distant, like Rodney was a living reminder of the atrocities he'd had to commit in order to keep the Genii from slaughtering the unicorns and selling their body parts to fund an arsenal.
John hadn't talked to him or even looked at him all night. He probably couldn't stand the sight of Rodney anymore.
Once upon a time, Rodney had thought maybe there would be something more between them, but all that was lost now. The rape had ruined everything.
He hated the Genii more than ever, for what they had done to Rodney and John. For what they had almost done to the beautiful, innocent unicorns.
Just as Rodney got up to leave the party, the music stopped and Elizabeth announced that they had a special surprise for everyone - karaoke.
Rodney loved karaoke, but he wasn't feeling much like having fun. He was just going to go back to his room and eat some PowerBars.
He almost made it to the door when he heard John's voice come over the speakers.
"This song is for Rodney," he said, and the first strains of "You're Still the One" by Shania Twain filled the room.

John's eyes met his in an intense gaze as he began to sing:
Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday
Everyone turned to stare to Rodney, but Rodney didn't notice. He was too caught up in the moment. In John's voice. In the words he was singing. In the slow sway of his leather-clad hips.
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong
Rodney blinked back the tears forming in his eyes. It was true. After everything that had happened, he still cared for John more than he'd ever cared for anyone in his whole life. And John felt the same way. A wave of relief washed over him.
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night
The crowd parted for Rodney as he approached John. He stood in front of him, watching him sing, letting the words flow over him, and he felt like he would burst. John loved him. John wanted to be with him. Even after everything that had happened.
Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'
John crossed the space between them as the music played on, ignoring the rest of the song as he took Rodney's hand and got down on one knee.
This can't be happening, Rodney thought, and all the pain and agony of the last few months dissolved as John kissed the back of his hand and looked up at him, and said, "Rodney, I love you. Will you marry me?"
Rodney couldn't believe his ears. Even after the words John had sung, the look in his eyes, he was still shocked.
Shocked, and gloriously happy.
"Yes," Rodney said, and the tears streamed down his face as the entire mess hall burst into cheers and applause. He could see Elizabeth and Teyla wiping their eyes, and even Ronon looked a little weepy. Everyone was so happy for them.
John got to his feet and clutched Rodney in a fierce embrace.
"Let's go back to my room," Rodney whispered.
John looked at him, his shining hazel orbs round with surprise. "Do you mean …?"
"Yes," Rodney said. He wanted John to make him his, to claim him as his soulmate forever.
"Are you sure?" John asked softly.
"Yes, I'm sure. I love you. I want you to make love to me."
"Even after what I did?" His fingers gently tracing the fading bruises on Rodney's face. The bruises he'd put there.
"I know you didn't really want to rape me, John. I'm just glad the unicorns are okay."
John smiled a huge, beautiful smile, his eyes filling with tears. "I love you so much, Rodney."
"I love you, too."
And they walked out of the mess to a round of applause, and Rodney knew they were going to live happily ever after.
The End
