Treehouse saved! maybe more details later but I'm going to keep busy collecting weeds, hiking, and cleaning up underneath the treehouse for the next week or more.
even several years ago the poles were looking pretty rough. at this point the treehouse was over 20 years old, a large tree had fallen on it and leaned against it for months and the ground surrounding it is quite swampy about 6 months out of the year
they were looking even rougher now, so much so that I have been sleeping in the main house for the past month and a half even though this is optimum treehouse weather
new legs to stand on, done by a professional since this is a job that isn't a "see what is laying around the house and barns and put it together" tatterdemalion DIY project like i usually favor. it took them about 2 hours to dig the holes and pour the footers and then about 8 hours to put it all together yesterday. i would have spent 2 hours just looking for the tools i needed, most of which i don't own anyway. i helped drill holes, put bolts on and lug shit and was able to learn a little about the right way to do something like this so when there is an oppurtunity for a DIY structure project i can be there with bells on. maybe i can help some amish people build a barn. they'll be like "Oh Christ, not this guy again, he ues skateboards and tin signs as wall segments and circuit boards for trim." i'm just trying to help them get a little more ready for a zombie holocaust then they already are.
the inside of the treehouse is still like new and insulated much better than my bedroom which was constructed over a hundred years ago. the floor is still more level and uniform than any in my part of the house as well. even if i don't live here forever at least it will be here for when i visit or have about 5 nephews and nieces. future projects include a new and larger deck and a new roof and other little things i didn't want to spend time on before i was sure it wasn't going to be a in a heap on the ground. i've still got some expensive dentist visits coming up but then i'm going to start saving money again and take it from there.
maybe my treehouse needs it's own livejournal or i could just change the name of this one because i'm sure the treehouse has more photos on here than me, my friends, or my pets.
