10.21/22 'Finale' Review

May 14, 2011 00:47

I have been equally dreading and looking forward to this day and it's here. Not only is it here but it's over. Smallville is done. This is the last SV episode review I'll ever write. Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect with the finale but I've been crossing my fingers that they'll give us a great send off. Tom Welling praised it and while actors don' ( Read more... )

That's cool! Yeah, most of my flist comment here. DW is kind of a back-up journal for me, in case LJ dies permanently, lol.

assuming I'm the comics fans you mention *g*
Actually, you weren't. I have a lot of comic book fans on my flist but I wasn't referring to anyone really. I was mostly making a general statement. Kind of putting myself in the shoes of someone who does read the comics and is invested in the GA storyline there. I see a lot of Chlollie hate on Twitter so I was just making myself clear on where I stand, you know? I hope I didn't offend you or anything! It truly wasn't my intention.

But yay! I'm glad to hear that you liked the episode too!

I've even resigned myself to SV's baby!Queen because, yeah, there NEEDED to be a small child reading Superman comics for whom these heroes are *real* and *beautiful* and *present* in their life. Someone to look up to, to believe in. And if there was going to be a kid, it might as well have been Ollie and Chloe's instead of a random kid.
Seconding everything you said here. Also, the kid that they picked for the Chlollie child was adorable.

Everything else was just perfect, except Tess dying--I really could have done without that, but she went out a hero and I love her and I've only seen her in, like, five episodes including this one! She's so wonderful.
Yeah, I kind of predicted that Tess would die at Lex's hands and have been dreading it for a while, but like you said, I'm glad she went out as a hero. I can't wait till you see more of the episodes, because you will just adore her even more. Cassidy is fantastic as an actress and she has really made me invested in the character of Tess, more than I ever thought I would when she was first announced in s8.

Clark! Lois! Ollie! My heart is full to bursting from loving them so much. So damn epic.
They were all so awesome, weren't they?

Those vows were perfect. Clark finally seeing Jonathan was perfect. "Miss Lane?"/"Mr. President" was perfect. Ollie's smile when Clark pushed back the darkness was perfect.
Loved their vows. And I agree about the rest. The 'Miss Lane' killed me. Clark's little smile was so sexy. And I loved Ollie's smile when Clark pushed back the darkness. He's so proud of him! OH BOYS!

I wasn't offended, no worries! And I hope my issues with Chloe/Oliver don't come across as hating--that's not my intention either. As much as I enjoy SV!Ollie, there's too much of Lex in him to be my Ollie. The Lex-Oliver parallels make for interesting stories, don't get me wrong, but I have to remember to set aside the comics/toons.

Tess was fantastic! It'll be interesting to watch her evolve from antagonist to (anti?) hero in three seasons. But I hope there will be lots of Tess resurrection fics coming! (I still can't get over "Lutessa" though. Ugh, what a name.)

Oh, no, not at all. Trust me, I haven't even seen you hating on Chlollie. It's mostly from my fellow Cloisers on Twitter and it's irritating because I'm like, 'enjoy what you like and ignore the rest'. I generally had less of a tolerance because it was the last season and I wanted fandom to get along for a little bit, you know?

I don't know any other version of Ollie but I love SV Ollie and I don't think I would enjoy him being anything other than what he is. I don't see him being too much like Lex and I find the similarities between them only on the superficial level. I think SV!Ollie is more like Bruce actually, with the dead parents and the angsting, except his morals are more gray than Batman. Lex is more obsessive and calculative and really always has been, even at Excelsior when he was willing to sell out his friend to gain popularity.

Tess was fantastic! It'll be interesting to watch her evolve from antagonist to (anti?) hero in three seasons.
Oh, yes, her journey is fascinating. What I like about her is that she represents what being around Clark and being influenced by Clark can do to someone.

But I hope there will be lots of Tess resurrection fics coming! (I still can't get over "Lutessa" though. Ugh, what a name.)
That would be awesome. I hope someone thinks of that! And yes, 'Lutessa' is an awful name. I guess they wanted to go with the "LL" theme but they could've made Tess her middle name and given her another name. Hell, even Lex is just a nickname. He's really Alexander so there's no LL there either! :\

I don't want SV!Ollie to be anything other than what he is either, really. You're right that he's got a lot of Bruce in him too--dead parents, CEO of multi-billion dollar company--but he still feels a bit Lex-like to me, especially when he wears the white suit of evil. Also, some of the conversations he has with Clark resonate strongly with early Clex scenes. The hotheadedness and shirking responsibility is pure Ollie, though!

At least we have Mia! She brings out the Ollie in Ollie, IMHO. I adore her. For me, Ollie/Mia:Tess/Alexander. She and Conner need to meet and form their own superhero team!

Exactly. Instead of Lutessa Lena Luthor, she could have been Lena Theresa (Tess) Luthor.

Aah yes, that's true. I feel like he came off as more Lex-like in season 6, but not really after that. He is what Lex could've been, or at least that is what SV wanted to show him as. Once you go deeper, they really aren't alike- personality wise, interest wise. Which is why I compare him to Bruce, especially Nolan verse Bruce. DC didn't allow Smallville to have Batman, which is why they got Oliver in the first place. It makes sense that they'd make him Bruce-lite. His friendship with Clark, despite their difference in ideas from time to time, his parents' death haunting him ... it's all very Bruce.

So true. I love Mia too. She's very interesting and I wish we saw more of her character. I loved Alexander and Tess more than I ever thought I would. But yes, I would love for Mia and Conner to meet/team up. They'd be cute.

Yes, there were a ton of other choices. The writers just weren't thinking.
