So, uh, I kind of wrote something.

Morgana takes to planning Gwen's first proper date with Merlin with same firm determination that she shows when preparing the menu for a banquet. Gwen doesn't think it's worth all the fuss, but she sits quietly and lets Morgana plan.

"You'll need a new dress, of course. Let me see what I have." Morgana spends several minutes buried deep in her wardrobe before emerging with a gown. "You can have this one, if you like. I haven't worn it in ages. It's not much, but..."

The dress which Morgana describes as "not much" is, of course, far more exquisite than anything Gwen has ever owned. "My lady, I couldn't--"

"Of course you can," Morgana interrupts. "It may need a little tailoring, but it suits you well."

There's no point in arguing with Morgana when she's like this, so Gwen stops trying. "Thank you, my lady."

Morgana smiles, and it's so sweet and kind that Gwen forgets her doubts. Then she claps her hands. "Your hair! You should wear it special." She gives Gwen a knowing look. "Boys like it when you take extra care to look nice for them. Sit down."

Gwen sits, a little tentatively. "My lady, do you know how to dress hair?"

Morgana shrugs. "How hard can it be?"

Gwen almost, almost protests. But she sees at Morgana smiling at her, looking young and carefree, far away from the nightmares that haunt her sleep. Gwen could never do anything to chase away that smile.

Morgana does her best to be gentle, but she's inexperienced, and her fingers pull at Gwen's hair. It takes effort not to cry out, but Gwen manages. Once she's done, Morgana proudly hands Gwen the mirror. "It's beautiful," Gwen tells her. It's not even a lie. Yes, it's loose and lopsided, but it was done with all of Morgana's love, and nothing could be more beautiful than that.

She'll tell Merlin about it when she sees him, and they'll laugh about it together. Not in a cruel way, never, but in a way that says, "It's lucky that we love them so much, because they're hopeless without us." Yes, Merlin will understand.

Gwen finds herself humming a little as Morgana helps her into the gown. She has a good feeling about this.

Oh, God, MY HEART. They so, so, so are. (See: Morgana.) And, oh Lord, Morgana doing Gwen's hair and being all excited and take-chargey over Date Night With Merlin is so wonderful that it hurts a little.

I just want to return to the days when Gwen and Morgana were giggly and smiley and brought each other flowers. That's all I want! By which I mean, I'm glad you liked it.
