I have always loved to dance, but it wasn’t until when I was 15 years old that I started to do it in my spare time (if you disregard the lessons I took when I was a child). I began with jazz dance, which I continued with even when I went to the university in a new town. After 5½ years I tried modern dance for half a year. I liked it, but because of the fall training that we did on parquet flooring my body couldn’t cope with it. So I changed to ballet for a year. That was good for me; the classical technique is very good to have behind you. I learned a lot that year, but when ever my teacher was doing a jazzinspiring ballet that was just me! So then I had to start with jazz dance again, which I did for 1½ years.
Then I went to study archaeology in York and I had to quit dancing for a half year. I thought, because after that I started to work as an archaeologist and then there were no time for dancing. And when I did have time for it, changing jobs, they had stopped offering dance lessons to non-professionals. :(
But this semester I’m starting again, after a break of 5 years! Jazz dance (of course!) and I’m quite nervous I must say. But better late than never …
