Music and Art Festival

The Lancaster music and art festival has begun and we have concerts in the town square at the gazebo each day at noon each day. There are concerts at different venues, stages set up all over town - the little normally quiet place is buzzing with the orchestra players arriving and staying in homes that are here for the week or so prior to the festival. We had a bassoonist stay with us for eight or nine years, until I became unable to contend with it each year due to so many people already in the home. ..
Last night was the "Art Walk" with basically all of downtown blocked off and art exhibits in about thirty different areas....really super time, very fun.
Tonight, we are taking a picnic for a concert outdoors at Ohio University - Lancaster and see the fireworks after-wards. Everyone is very excited and upbeat during these days in July while we have so much activity going on and then we settle back down and at first it is such a letdown until we get back into our normal daily routines.... We have some I suppose D list celebs that will be playing this evening with the rest of the orchestra....but it's fun. Next weekend is a country western singer, Jo Dee Messina.. I'm not sooo much country but she puts on a good show.

Last evening we were sitting back in our usual place - up fairly close to the gazebo bandstand when a little lady came over and inquired where we had been the past two Friday nights. I told her we'd been sitting back by Gen. Sherman's stature as there is a patio there for the grandchildren to play out of the way but since all the restaurants now have their trailers and carts set up you cannot see or hear back there. She was soooo sweet. She said she and her husband had mentioned to several others around them and had looked for "their little buddy" Cameron. They've been watching him grow each summer since he was a baby - so they think they know him. He knows that the first few rows of chairs is his "fan club" and he plays to them, he will get on top of a bench and dance and wave to the crowd when he finishes....and he waves as we leave which makes them all smile. Small towns, some things you have to love about them.....
