Last Saturday (27th October) I’d intended to go from WGC on the 724 to Harlow, then on the X5 to Romford, then 370 to Lakeside, by bus. However, once we got to Harlow the wind and general chill meant I got a few things there instead, with a vow to return soon for the rest. So, today, Saturday 3rd November 2012, decided I’d go out to Lakeside once more - but by train via London, instead of bus via Harlow. Weather today was much milder, as opposed to being almost blown away last weekend!
If you thought
yesterday was a little surreal, this had even more ingredients that meant you had to wonder if it was actually really, happening.
Once again I could see the Morrison’s vans out with the flowers - but before we did, I could see downstairs, and the street door had been badly damaged last night. Now, it’s weird that yes, living in towns, this happens at the weekend, someone from outside tries to get in or feels unwell, and damages the door - or so I thought - turned out it was damaged by someone trying to get out… the handle isn’t too bad, but… hey ho - this is only the communal door downstairs, and all the flat doors are safe and well. If the only such weekend-related damage is from someone who perhaps lives here, then I guess we’d be happier with that, than if someone was trying to break in. Better the devil you know, than the one that you don’t I guess. I don’t condone damage but I guess if the motive was not to break in from the outside, then it’s a different agenda.
Went out again via the Books For Free store - picked up one more I saw yesterday, plus another two to make today’s three - travel books, inc. an old one by train in the South East of England by Network South East over 20 years ago. Again, this is throwing up some good travel/LGBT/business/reference/maps that I’d not had, but you can see the book in question.
So, train by
First Capital Connect from WGC to London Kings Cross,
tube Northern Line to Bank,
Docklands Light Railway to Limehouse, and then
c2c to Chafford Hundred, for
Lakeside Shopping Centre. The visit was for one of the three
Taco Bell stores in the UK - the others being Basildon and Manchester. I've been in the mood of another Mexican bite, but couldn't see something locally - either that or
Nanna Mexico in Cambridge, where I've been often.
Got a good lunch, got some
Krispy Kreme’s to take home, and a box of
chocolates from Thornton’s
for a fiver, that also comes with a £5 off next box (one size up) voucher! Standard enough stuff - c2c from Chafford Hundred through to London Fenchurch St, where the plan was to walk over to Tower Hill for a Circle Line tube back to Kings Cross, for the train home. One weird twist to come - we were held on the way out for a minute. I thought I’d be able to walk back, but they kept us in Fenchurch Street station, only for 2 minutes at most. Why? Well, someone was filming scenes from the
forthcoming Red 2 movie, including “simulated” gunshots… so we then got walking, and on our way - with another weirdly twisted tale to tell.
So, back home now, and relaxed. As for twists tomorrow in the
DUFC vs. Celtic match, who knows? Hopefully it will be a #beautifulsunday !
