Ok, so my life has had very little balance this semester. School should come first (but we all know it never does), but I have been finding way too many things that I would rather be doing. This semester i am taking HEV 219, in which we are required to volunteer at 3 different places in the Human Service field for a total of 60 hours. Hello. I love volunteering, but as my parents would say, I should start getting paid to work.
Well, anyways...I have been volunteering at two wonderful sites this semester. Special Olympics has me volunteering under their sports management director. Its pretty cool. I get to put first aid kits together, help make packages for coaches and athletes, and do a lot of paperwork. I wish I was getting some experience directly with the athletes, but office work is just as important. Next, I am volunteering at Hospice of Central Michigan. I just finished a 24 hour training course last week. It was very intense and emotional, however, I learned so much that I can apply to almost any area of my life--personally and professionally. I have no idea what I am going to do for my third site...oops. Yeah, I still need to work on that on.
Then there is sorority life. Elections are coming up (in less then one month) and I have been doing a lot of reflecting on my time in ASA. Don't ya love reflecting? I have learned so much and can't imagine my life without ASA and all the wonderful people I have been able to interact with. I seriously have enjoyed all my years in the group. It is so sad to think that I will only be active for one more semester. I think it will be really hard for me to return to being an active member without a position (this is a personal decision...I just need time to work on finding a job/internship and focus on classes more then I have been doing). I'll still be involved with everything...just in a new way for me. Oh, the transitions that one must go through while growing up...
Anyways, more exciting news...I have been selected to participate in Alternative Breaks at the Peace site. I am really excited about that. Of course, I love traveling (coming from the girl who lived in three different time zones this summer) and from what I know, I think the site is in Texas (home of my little sis, KIM!)
I really wanted to go to see a speaker tonight (a local woman who participated in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics) but I think I am just going to relax for a bit instead. I might wander over to the Phi Tau baseball game and socialize for a bit. Other than that, I really need to update my resume, find internships, e-mail my advisors (ok--word of advise--don't ever decide to major in two totally different fields, it's not easy to narrow down what you really want to do), work on my portfolio (hello--I have Jenni Finch in my portfolio--how many students at CMU can say that? Sometimes I just have to brag), and may be do some homework in there...right...later folks!
