Really liked this paragraph--seems perfectly in voice. And aw! Alan!
Guy was shocked when a message made it's way to him anonymously that he should seriously consider leaving Nottingham without delay. Even if the beginning of the message had not read, "I'm not trying to be funny, but...", he would have known his former protege was behind the message. It could be that Alan felt some small amount of loyalty to Guy or possibly guilt over his defection back into Robin's gang. Who knows why he did it, Guy was grateful nonetheless, took the warning seriously, and made a speedy departure in the dead of night. He heard later about the Sheriff's execution and knew he had made a narrow escape. Would he miss the Sheriff? A clue...No.
I can't wait for more!

My fic was the same way--the bad part about killing the Sheriff is that you miss writing all of his witticisms!
