Dream ☳ 01

Dream Effect: Second person, so as dictated! As always, optional.
Warning: Headcanon that is 30 times more powerful than the bomb that fell on Hiroshima and that'll engulf the Earth three times - I mean. What.

There is a moment when the world seems to fall away beneath your feet, when the walls cave in on top of you, when you want to breathe but you can't.

And then it all
stops.

"Sou-chan, come over here for a moment!" It is a woman's voice, and it's the sweetest voice and only voice you ever want to hear. You turn, giggling when your shoes catch on the pavement and you nearly fall over but strong arms catch you and swing you up into the air until you are flying flying flying and you both tumble into the grass with laughter while the sweetest sound of laughter follows soon after.

"What is it, mama?" You're still at the age where you call her "mama" and not "okaa-san" and when you enjoy nothing more than to be engulfed in the folds of her dress as you run to her and hug her legs, when just the sound of your father's laughter as he sweeps both of you into his arms is enough to send you into another bout of giggles

(and if you knew enough you would say you want this moment to go on forever.)

The three of you stop spinning and fall breathless into the grass again: you sit in her lap while papa holds her hands and you place your hands on top of his - because you want your hands to be as big as his some day so you can be just as strong as he is. Mama's voice tickles your ear and you laugh again even though you've already run out of breath from laughing.

"Well, I was going to show you a butterfly, but papa scared it off!"

"Papa~!" you whine, and there is a look on his face that says "what did I do now!?" but you know and mama knows and papa knows that no one really minds.

"Uhoh, papa did something bad again, didn't he? Should papa show you something too?" And just like that he plucks you from mama's lap and stands and once again you're flying flying flying before you sit on top of his shoulders and know that you're on top of the world.

A giggle, before: "Show me what, papa?" and you twist to look behind you (and nearly fall off but your father holds you tight and you don't even slip) and see that your mother is following (and she is the most beautiful woman you will ever know and you know that you want to grow to be this tall and protect her forever.)

"Oops, don't fall. Well, there's trees and the sky and flowers and leaves--"

"I know all that!"

"Haha, I know you do, Sou-chan. Look over there."

Your eyes follow the direction that his finger points to - there is a bee there crawling on a tree trunk, and then you see many other bees. "Honey!" you cry delightedly, clapping your hands together, but your father shakes his head and tells you to look a little closer.

"Dear..." your mother stands beside the two of you now but you are so much taller than she is. But right now your eyes are glued to the bee nest nestled in the trees because: "Huge bees!" have just come out of it.

"Those are actually giant hornets, Sou-chan. They're bigger than the bees so they can attack them and then eat their honey." You hear his words, but you're far more interested in the huge bees (hornets) that are now darting away from the nest - but already your father has swung you down onto the ground and you flail for a moment before you find your legs again - and already your mother has crouched down and is holding you against her chest and there is that smell that you know means "safe" and-

"Sou-chan, papa is going to have to go away for a little while for work, okay?"

"Okay!"

"So Sou-chan has to be a good boy and listen to mama so he can grow up and be big and strong and protect mama, okay?"

"Okay!"

They are promises made without knowing what
promises are and you are far too young still to understand
what it means when mama's arms tighten around you because you
only snuggle a little closer towards her.

"So Sou-chan has to-"

And there is a forever when you try to yell but you can't because you try to breathe but you can't breathe, when the ground falls out from beneath you and this is "waking up" and you claw your way out of the walls that cave in around you and-

...up. SHUT UP!

[Souta wakes up, pushing blankets aside. The Dreamberry is propped on the bedside table which offers a perfect view as he scrambles to the end of the bed, a mixture of hysterical giggles as he curls up somewhat defensively - until he notices the blinking of the Dreamberry. The pillow he throws at it shuts off the feed.]
