Just wanted to touch base with my LJ buddies and let y'all know that things are okay in Suz's neck of the woods after that horrible tornado that ripped through here Saturday. The storm was about 60 miles north of us, but we're all just still in shock at what's happened up around Yazoo City. From what the experts are saying, this monster was a mile and a half wide and stayed on the ground for about ninety miles and ranged from an F3 to an F4. Winds getting up to around 200 mph. That's a bad bitch.
Ten people died and scores were hurt and lost their homes or businesses. The stuff they can get back, the people are gone forever and that's a sad thing.
One story really stuck in my heart ever since and I just wanted to share it. Several news services have picked it up and I did some fact checking with a friend in Yazoo City (who was okay, btw) and confirmed the tale because you know how TV enhances things for the public sometimes. There was a young mother near town at home alone with her two small children. When she heard the tornado warnings, she did what we've all been schooled to do, grabbed her babies, got to the hall bathroom to stash them in the tub and dragged in a mattress to cover them with. Evidently, she didn't have time to get under it with them and they found her crushed by debris from the house, laying on that mattress to keep it on top of those babies. The kids didn't have a scratch on them and were saved.
A reporter asked a relative of hers when she mentioned asking for prayers if she wondered why God had let this happen to them and how were they coping with her death. The lady's response was, "We're praising God for giving her the strength to do what she had to do to protect her children."
I suppose the difference in faith or lack of it is lens you're looking through, huh?
Hope you'll pray with me for all of those people while they try to get back up again. And thanks to all you sweeties who checked on us.
Love ya,
Suz
