I love Saturdays! In summer at least. During the school year I have to clean house and do homework.

Saturday is....the farmer's market!!  Our farmer's market is cool because it also has local arts and crafts. So I go and buy cheap organic veggies directly from the farmer, which in turn supports the local economy. There's one bakery, The Marquette Bakery,  that comes that actually rents a kitchen in the children museum's basement and sells their food at the Co-op and the farmer's market. Also, to buy a tomato at the grocery store that one tomato travels all over the country from Mexico to different processing plants all the while being sprayed numerous times with pesticides. So buying local reduces the effects of global warming and is safe to eat for my little Montana. Eating "organic", even though the term organic doesn't make sense" is actually cheaper than one may think. Overall we do buy less food but we don't waste our money on junk food and get the basics instead. The problem is that you have to cook everything and that takes a lot of time. It's nice in summer but hard during the school year. So, I'm going to buy a lot of cheap organic produce this summer and freeze some for the school year and that way I won't spend endless hours during school chopping up veggies all the day long. I also run out of ideas for veggie dishes. You can only make stir-fries so many times before getting sick of it, and salads as well.

Today we are going to the Renissance (sp?) fair in Ishpeming. It could be lame but at least it gets us out of our house and doing something as a family.
