My 'Littles' dollhouse

When I was small, I received "The Littles" dollhouse from my parents. I remember Dad built it for me and I loved it.

As I got older, it just kind of got in the way and I eventually got rid of it. A few years ago I found a bag containing all the contents of my house - furniture, carpets, dolls - and I wished I had it again. Every year when we went to the Mega Toy Swapmeet at Wayville I kept an eye out for it, or for more pieces that I didn't have. I found a few of them, but they were usually water-damaged or wrecked in some way, and I really just wanted mine back again.

I think after losing Dad this year I began to feel a real need to get this dollhouse. I needed it because he made it for me, even though I knew it wouldn't quite be right. At the moment I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with not having him around.

Anyways. I found a damaged one on Ebay that had never been built and was still in it's box. It had one broken cross piece, nothing that couldn't be glued, so I bought it. I also bought some other pieces, a tilt table, an armchair and Kenny with his rocking horse. Before I bought it, I negotiated a layaway with the seller because I knew I just didn't have enough money for it.

I began paying it off with $50.00 a fortnight and then recently I finished it.

When it arrived it was in a massive box, we unpacked it and I began attaching the wallpaper. The stickers were still sticky! I was very relieved. Then Tonto and I began to put it together. I was filled with admiration for my dad at that moment because this thing was a bastard to build...

The chimney - an improvement over my old one. The chimney never attached in the old one. I never worked out why until I got my new one! I was missing the fireplace, you see :-)

These last two pieces I bought at the Mega Toy Swapmeet this year, I wondered at the time if I would ever have the chance to use them. I'm so glad that now I will.
