Complex Hilted Longswords...

Working on one of these, loosely* based off Melchior Deifstetter of Munich's work of the 1550's... one of which is in the Wallace Collection, and a few in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum Munchen.

trying a different production approach, of making finely surfaced peices in plastic and making silicone moulds from the plastic model, to cast the waxes for lost-wax casting.

Finding it far, far faster, and will allow me to make duplicate wax masters much easier.

however, whoever classified these as "complex hilt bastard swords" obviously never made one, because if they were, they'd be called "absolute bleedin' hellish complex bastard swords. ".

and the one I'm doing is noticably simplified compared to the originals...

*"loosely based" as the originals from the 1550's tend to have a much shorter, stubby 2nd hand grip, which results in a shift in balance that would'nt have been suitable for the user. so since the aft part of the hilt's been modified, the pommel needed changed to suit the blade's harmonic point, and so the cross arms have been adjusted to mirror the pommel design.
Yeah. I'm turning into a longsword-spotter. you can find me with an anorak and a flask of hot Bovril scribbling down maker's marks at your local railway station platform museum...
