Shooting on Virginia Tech Campus

Apr 16, 2007 10:19

My brother is ok.

There was a shooting on VT campus this morning, being called the largest university shooting in history (unfortunately not a fame one would wish on ones alma mater). The first attack was at a dorm at around 7:15 this morning where one student was shot in a dorm. The next was 3 hours later in an engineering building across campus where ~21 are confirmed dead and about double are injured. The shooter is dead, police are not saying if he/she killed himself or was shot by an officer.

My brother is working the scene, and has been there since early this morning as part of the SWAT team. He's ok. (I keep repeating this for my benefit more than yours really.) He's fine. We're concerned about other family friends who work on campus though.

In other family news: my mother's surgery went fine this morning, though she is still a bit loopy from the drugs. That's probably a good thing since otherwise she'd be climbing the walls worrying.

It looks like my nephew is getting impatient and will probably be born sometime this week, much to the relief of my sister-in-law. He dropped a few days ago, and she has a really bad cold, so she's pretty miserable at this point. He isn't "due" for another 3 weeks, so her doctors aren't going to induce, but nobody is too worried about him.

And my brother is ok.

[EDIT: There are a lot of new people on my friends list these days, so I should probably explain a bit in case it isn't clear from context. My baby brother is a Sherriff's deputy in Montgomery County, Virginia. His wife is 8 months pregnant with their second child (a boy). My mother is an all-around wonderful person who happened to have minor surgery today. I think that's all.]
